Getting motivated in the morning

CollinsMom

My workouts in the mornings have been struggling lately.

For those others who work out in the early morning, shortly after waking up, what gets you motivated and warmed up? What, if anything, should I avoid?

Hi Collinsmom,

Don't know if this will help at all, but as for me I have to get up at 4:30 to start my work out at 4:45 in order to give myself enough time to get ready for work and then make my 60 minute commute....I can't work out after work because I just find that I'm so tired after a long day and I feel like there are other things that I need to get done instead so I just sacrifice and get up early.

I usually get up about 15 to 20 minutes prior to when I know I have to actually start working out in order to make it to work on time hence 4:30 & I walk around the house to warm up my muscles and just help myself wake up, I watch a little news, and have some water because for me the issue is more about dealing with the sleepiness than anything else....so try giving yourself at least 15-20min prior to working out, lots of water & get to bed really early so that you don't feel like your lacking sleep (which is I think the most difficult part)

Good Luck!

Thanks, ladies!

I wonder if a few minutes of a basic stretching video would benefit me at all. I already drink coffee, water, piddle around for a few.

I will try the stretching tomorrow morning!

Anyone else?

It's not easy! I wake up at 4:15 to prepare for a 4:45 ish wo. I have my coffee pot on timer so it is ready when I get up. I must brush my teeth and wash my face. While I'm slurping my coffee, I'm on the computer looking for inspiration and thiking about the equipment needed for the day. I actually manage to do some random chores around the house too. If I don't wo in the morning, it never gets done! MAYBE when the kids are grown and I don't have to worry about taking care of them, I'll be able to sswitch to the evening. Good luck:)

Actually for me, Phyllis hit it on the head - I log on to the Cathe boards and check in with my Cheetah pals. As soon as I do that I feel I HAVE to work out or I'm lying to my friends. I also get up at 4:30 for a 5:30 workout as I need time to drink my tea and relax before moving.

consider meditation the evening before a workout or every night. it will help you sleep better and therefore you'll be well rested and ready for your morning routine.

check out a.m and p.m. meditation with rodney yee. beautiful way to wake up and
start your day.

eat light and clean every day with small healthy snacks inbetween main meals.
actually- don't think in terms of main meals. just eat healthy. listen to your
body.

surround yourself with whole fruit and vegetables that you love. cherries, mangoes, avocado, tangerines, watermelon. healthy eating does wonders... clears skin, makes your eyes clear, makes you glow, and will make everyone wonder what it is you do and where you get that energy.

the body has enough energy- if we feed it properly- without a doubt it will deliver.

i know when i eat heavier meals i feel tired and drawn the next morning.
it's so much more pleasant in the morning when i'm eating cleaner.

take digestive enzymes such as "beauty enzymes" by nature's first law
(the best in my opinion) with all cooked meals.

have a glass of water with lemon first thing in the morning. drink a lot of this. water is cleansing, keeps your organs doing what they should do, hydrating and will keep you
beautiful.

a banana smoothie also gets me going. mine is 2 bananas, 1 bag of organic
frozen strawberries, 1 tbsp agave nectar, and water to smooth it out.

good morning to you! :9

This is somewhat embarrassing, but I actually sleep in my workout clothes (sports top and shorts/capris, or long pants and a long sleeved shirt over a tank when it is colder out). I have my sneakers out in the bathroom so I can literally get up and go. My alarm goes off at 4:50 and I will normally get online for 5-10 minutes before heading downstairs - I work out from 5 or 5:05 to 6 or so. I am just getting back into this week after about a 6 week hiatus (I was doing evening workouts). What helps me is knowing that I have the workout over and done with, as well as the idea of having my whole evening all to myself without having to work out and shower (which ends up being about 90 minutes or longer all together).

I am only three days into my early workouts again, but I hope I can keep up with it. I actually have more energy throughout the day because of getting the workout in early.

I don't work out early in the morning anymore because I need to be to work at 7:00. I'd have to be up at 4:00 to workout. As it is, I'm up at 4:30 to walk the dogs. What motivates me to do that is the knowledge that I want to work out when I get home, and if I have to walk the dogs, I won't have time for the workout. And if I don't walk the corgi once a day, she'll poop on the floor out of spite. Poop on the rug is the big motivator.

So, I guess...it's just a "you gotta do what you gotta do" mentality that gets you going.
