Get Ripped with heavy (ier) weights

Hello,

I tried Get Ripped Slim & Lean yesterday and I found the workout to be very good. I used the same weights as Jari for most of the exercises. However, I was wondering on the leg squats where she uses dumbbells I used a barbell like members of her crew. I think that I could use heavier weights than them, maybe up 35+lbs. Has anyone used this much with heavier weights? Does it matter if you use a heavy barbell for the squats and 10lbs dumbbells for the lunges? (I found using the barbell for lunges a bit difficult because she moves quite fast.) I didn't sweat on the squats as I normally do with a Cathe workout.

As for the upper body, I used the same weights as Jari and I found that very challenging. The shoulder exercises I could not complete the 2nd set with 8lbs dumbbells. I guess my upper body strength is pretty pathetic, but working up to it.

I liked the Get Ripped series.

I agree. You really would not want to be doing the lunges with a 35-lb. barbell on your back. The workout is fast because it's supposed to be done with light weights. If you can do the squats with the 35-lb. dumbbell, that's probably okay, because your feet are at least planted in one spot, but the lunges are too active for heavy weight IMHO, and the risk of injury is too great.

Yen,

I don't like using weights for lunges and squats since I tend to bulk up easily. Even without the added weights, I felt that the tempo for the lunges moved too fast for me to do with good form and depth. I prefer to do the lunges at my own pace rather than pick up the speed. I get a better burn that way. If you want to continue to use the barbell, you could always slow down the lunges when Jari does her single count lunges.

I think the tempo of the lunge sequence is too fast to use heavy weights . . . just my opinion - I would slow it down if you are going to use heavier weights.
