Okay, I'm back:)
DS wanted to see his title, and I didn't really have time for personals so....

Gin~ Purim is a holiday where we celebrate Queen Ester saving the Jews from Haman. Its not a story in our Torah, I don't know if its in the Old testament or not.. Purim is the plural for lots in Persian. Haman (pronounced Hah-mahn), the chief of staff of the Persian Empire, attempted the ethnic cleansing of the kingdom's Jewish population. He cast lots to determine what date would be best to wipe out the Jews, came up with the 13th day of the Hebrew month Adar, dispatched an imperial Jew-annihilation order to every government office, and sat back to take a drink. Little did Haman know that the recently coronated Queen Esther was Jewish and the cousin of his arch-nemesis, the Jewish government official Mordechai. Through his palace contact Hatach, Mordechai begged Esther to intervene, which she did—greatly annoying her royal hubby Ahasuerus, who was rather ruffled to hear that someone wanted to murder his wife and her whole extended family. "Who's the slob?" snarled the king. "He's sitting right in front of you," sobbed Esther. "'Tis Haman!" Haman and family were hung, the annihilation order was countered with a Jewish self-defense provision (which resulted in empire-wide street combat between the Jews and their enemies), and the Jews triumphed.
Traditionally people dress up as a person in the story and go and hear the story read. They also give gift baskets to friends and families on Purim. In the nursery school on Purim we let the kids wear what ever costume they want and we have a party.
That may be more than you wanted to know :) Anyway, I hope you had as much fun as I did with the LIS/HIS cardio today!

Marcy~ What did you end up doing today?

Tracee~ Did you get a workout in? Do your kids have parties today? and do you get to go? I remember growing up going right out trick or treating after school. Now we don't go out till 6:30! I liked the after school way better. Is it just Maryland people who do this? or do your kids go out after dark also?

Have a great day all!
I have work and then the halloween party at DSs school I hope to BBL,

Deanie:*

Happy Halloween ladies.

I did HIS/LIS cardio today and it was fun. I didn't get too frustrated except with #3 on HIS. That on is going to take a few more times before I get the footwork right. I was more comfortable with LIS since this was my second time through. I'm sore from my leg and ab work yesterday. I'm even sore in my upper back a little from PS on Monday. That must mean I lifted heavy enough!

Deanie - My older ds is going to be a baseball player too. Baseball rules in our house as well so it was an easy costume to put together. My younger ds is having a party at school and yes, I get to go. It's one of my favorite school parties to attend, I love seeing all the kids' costumes.

In Michigan we've always trick or treated at night from 6 to 8. I remember when my sister lived in NJ and she said the kids go out from 4 to 6 or something like that. I thought that was so strange! I think now I would like it if we did it earlier. Then I would have more time to get the kids settled down before bed. It sure would be nice if they would change Halloween to always being on a Saturday!!

Gin/Marcy - I didn't get to see any of DWTS last night. x( I'm off to look at the website right now to see who got the boot.

Have a good day. I'm not sure if I'll get back on again today or not. Did you guys see the Halloween pictures that one of the members posted in the Ask Cathe forum? Too cute!!

Good Morning! and Happy Halloween!

Today was run and then LIS/HIS and then ME abs. LIS/HIS is a fun one. Is it just me, or do you guys think that the fun factor and choreography-difficulty are up there, but the intensity is lower? I know I was sweating, but it doesn't seem as if my HR is up very high. No complaints, just an observation. Next time I may wear my HRM.

Deanie--Thanks for the great explanation of Purim. When I was growing up we would go trick or treating at night and would go for miles (when I was in middle school and it was safe!). Have fun with your boys tonight!

Tracee and Marcy--I couldn't believe DWTS....Sabrina was my favorite. Do you think alot of people thought it wasn't fair because she WAS already a dancer?
Have fun with your kids tonight, Tracee! I love to see the trick or treater children in my neighborhood and see what cute costumes they have on. And then we get a lot of kids from other neighborhoods, which I don't mind. I guess their neighborhoods aren't safe? But, then every year LATE at night (9or10) we will get teenagers with babies and not always in costume. They will ring the bell even if the light is out. That is where I draw the line!

Gin :)

Good Morning and Happy Halloween!

I woke up on time this morning but did a stupid thing and went back to bed and got up late. I wound up doing S&H Tris & Bis this morning since I had the least amount to set up. Ran out of time for abs so will try and do them tonight, if not, tomorrow morning. Here are my stats:

Overhead extensions: 3 sets at 29#, 8 reps (up 4# on all)
Lying Extensions: S1 - 15#, 4 reps, 13#, 4 reps, S2&3 - 13#, 8 reps (a little worse than last week) right arm was really weak this morning.
Kickbacks - 10# all sets, 8 reps
Dips - both sets with 36# bbl
Dbbl curl - All sets w/15#, 8 reps (last set really tough)
Hammer Curl - S1 - 15#, 5 reps, S2 - 15#, 6 reps, S3 - 15#, 7 reps (last time I did all with 8 reps:()
Bbl curls - All sets 30#, 8 reps (I can't believe I went higher than Cathe for biceps!)
Wrist curls - 26#, 4 reps (2 less reps than last time)
Reverse curls - 8# all reps

Maybe the first exercise ruined me for the rest. I don't know when I'm going to go up for kickbacks. They are still so tough.

I feel left out! Everyone did LIS/HIS but me. I did HIS over the weekend and admit #3 in HIS was a little tricky but I'm sure after a few tries everyone will be loving it. RS took me a few tries too.

Gin - I do agree the intensity is a little lower on these step workouts. Usually with more complexity, you lose a little intensity but for me the big thing is the fun factor and these are definitely much more fun than most of her step which means I will be doing them more often than, let's say Body Max 2 or a lot of others. You can always add intensity by bumping up the step to 8" (although depending on the complexity, you might want to rethink that) or putting a hop on some knee lifts, etc.

I was very disappointed to see Sabrina go. What was everyone thinking? Someone over on OD said that most of Sabrina's fans might have went to bed too early to vote. I could see Cameron in the bottom two but was really surprised neither Marie nor Jane was there. They definitely aren't as talented as Sabrina. There have been others who have had dance training that have been on DWTS but you might be right. Stacy Kiebler was a thousand times better than Jerry Rice and he went on to the finale.

Deanie - I lived in an apartment building so we just went through the building and a couple of others but I think it's more fun going to houses. In my neighborhood, kids go out at night usually from 6-8 and also go to the businesses on the main road.

Tracee - I thought the Halloween pictures of Cathe and crew were great. The bunnies was really cute. But then Cathe is just like an Energizer bunny!

Warning: Make sure not to eat too much candy today. We don't want to lose all that wonderful progress we've made;-) Just kidding! Enjoy Trick or Treating! I already starting eating chocolate. Hopefully I can hold restrain myself.

Marcy

Marcy & Gin - Wow, I was shocked when I checked the website and saw that Sabrina was gone. I thought I had to be reading it wrong. And you say that neither Jane nor Marie was in the bottom two? Wow, they must have a lot of fans. Maybe they've really gotten to the older fans. I did hear that Marie was saying that they think the judges are against the older dancers? I thought Sabrina was going to win the whole thing.

I have been good today and haven't had any candy. Of course once I get home and see the big bowl sitting on the counter I'm sure I won't be able to resist. Actually, I'm usually good about resisting candy. It's the donuts, cookies, and things like that that I can't resist. ;)

Gin - I was thinking the same thing about my heart rate during HIS/LIS. Which was weird for me because I actually prefer the harder choreography over harder intensity. Next time put on your HRM so we can compare!

Well, I'm off to the school. I hope I have new batteries for my camera, I forgot to check.

Talk to you all tomorrow.

Hi Again!

I figured that's what she was going to do. Sounds good to me. I'll be changing up the legs but other than that, I'll follow as is. I wonder why she added S&H only to the 4th week and skipped yoga? I for one definitely won't be skipping my yoga.

Deanie - Did you go trick or treating yet?

Marcy

No, boys are playing baseball now, and after dinner we go out. There are about 10 boys and 5 of us parents, and we all go out together at about 6:30.

Deanie

eta: I also wondered why she added S&H legs on the 4th week.

Have a GREAT halloween everyone!
