Gave myself the weekend off

I wasn't feeling too well all week, so I decided to just rest this weekend. No errands, no exercise. Lots of sleeping and I totally loosened up on my eating. I actually ordered a veggie pizza for dinner! DH kept commenting how much he loves to see me let go and relax like this. (I often buzz around like a frentic bee all weekend trying to get everything done). I'm really enjoying myself!

I've been playing Sudoku non-stop and I'm actually down to 35 mins. for a medium-hard puzzle. I'm hoping this will sharpen my brain and that by Monday morning I'll be rested, refreshed, sharp and ready to face another stressful week at the office. True, by Monday evening I'll probably be exhausted again, but what the heck. I'm havin a good time.

How's everyone else doing?

-Nancy

Just editing to add that it's freezing cold and starting to snow here in NY so I really don't feel like I'm missing anything out in the world. How's the weather where you are?

Hi Nancy, I'm glad you are relaxing and enjoying the weekend. I'm at work, but it's nice and quiet, so except for an occassional phone call, I'm knitting and listening to a football game on the radio. I was thinking of doing the same thing you are for a couple days before Christmas. Things get so crazy and time gets so short. I don't have any time off, including the whole Christmas weekend, and am expecting family as company, so I think I may give myself some time off, at least from exercise.
It's cold here in north central PA, too, and we had a couple inches of snow last night. I guess you are getting the same storm we had. Enjoy your rest!

Hi Nancy and Robin,

It's freezing here in southwest Ohio with temp in the mid to upper 20's. There's no snow but the roads were iced over this morning. DH had to work today and had about a 35 to 40 min drive to get there:-(

I'm just hanging out and making soup. I love soup--could eat it everyday!

Nancy, enjoy your weekend of rest and puzzles, and Robin, I'm going to hold you to a couple of days of relaxation before Christmas. I know you need it;)

Michele

Good for you Nancy - especially if your DH says you need it too :)

You will definetely come back stronger after the weekend off.

It's snowing in MA too. It's a really nice snow - not having to commute today helps!

Funny we Robi(y)ns tend to post back to back a lot!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Good for you for taking a break. I'm all for it. I try to eat clean most of the time, so when I don't, I really appreciate the goodies. I am always surprised at how little it effects me if I let loose with the food every so often (if I can do it without binging, Ha!) You will have a lot more energy when you workout next. Have fun with it! It is cold here too. Melissa

Robin, yes, you should definitely take some down time. Especially if you're having company. That can take a lot out of you.

The storm we inherited from you is just furries so far, but we'll see. Oh, I wish I could knit! How relaxing that must be. Enjoy your day.

-Nancy

Michele, I love soup too. Although the stuff I eat usually comes from cans. My favorite is Amy's Organic Black Bean Vegetable. What kind of soup are you making?

-Nancy

Robyn,
I'm guessing you have more snow than we do. Any idea how much is expected? I think our main snowfall is expected on Tuesday night.

I can't believe I haven't purchased snowboots yet this year. I wish there was a way to buy boots without having to go to a store and try them on, but that never seems to work for me.

I'm making bean soup. It has several kinds of beans and lentils. I flavor it with a ham bone but there really aren't any chunks of meat in it. Then I add canned diced tomatoes, a chopped, red bell pepper, 2 big onions, and garlic--a little fresh lemon juice and it's good to go! My grocery store sells the bean/lentil mixture in a plastic container along with the recipe. It's really delicious.

Michele

Nancy, yes, knitting is very relaxing, and you can be productive while relaxing for those of us who have a hard time sitting still.

Robyn, we must be in the same flock!

Hey there -
I did the same thing - took the weekend off. I can't remember the last time I voluntarily took a day off exercise, much less two in a row! You're right. It is very nice. And guess what? I actually have time to get on the Cathe forums for the first time in probably a month. I even got the house decorated for Christmas today.

Enjoy what's left of the slow weekend!

I'm so glad you are having fun and taking it easy this weekend Nancy! It is 64 degrees here in South Carolina and we are about to have a big ol' thunderstorm! It will trun cooler this week with lows in the 20's and high's in the 40's...so they say. It was chilly Friday night and I came home and made potato soup. We had garlic/cheese bread and dipped it in olive oil and herbs...yummy! We had some leftovers for lunch today. I almost fell a sleep a few minutes ago so I jumped up off of the couch. I HATE the way I feel after a nap...so groggy...yuck! Today is my usual rest day so I'm definitely relaxing before evening service tonight. I tell you what though, it is so dark, I may just have to go ahead and take a nap. Hubby is up there snoring away right now. I'm feeling a heavy pull toward the bed.......

LOL Nancy I was wondering about you!!! I posted I was in search of you and there you've been all along. :D

Your weekend sounds marvelous. I'm glad you've given yourself this gift. You deserve to take a break sometimes!!!

I'm in the middle of studying Evidence (okay, in the middle of attempting Evidence). Ick.

I think I can manage a day like yours maybe at the end of this week. I hope! My boss is really lame and I need to leave the job, but have no place to go that will give me any money right away without a search, interview, decision, etc. All I know is, I need to get out of litigation. My boss is pretty decent, too, but he stresses me out. I've had massive breakouts on my chest since August. :(

As for the weather, it looks clear and cold here. We hadn't turned our heat on for a while, but I caved and turned it on today- our house was 55 indoors and I couldn't handle it!! :)

The cats are fighting. Off to refferee. Glad to hear you're doing well, Nancy!!!

Hi Nancy. The snow is all melted at this point in Manhattan. BF and I were both sick, so we sat in most of the day on Saturday. I hung out in PJs and read Jane Eyre until about 4 p.m. I know that I *must* have been sick because I absolutely hate hanging around in my PJs normally! Anyhow, today I was much better, so I did my usual ballet/swim/some sort of Cathe weights thing, plus I'm cleaning the apartment and doing laundry and basically can't sit still again.

Hope you're feeling better--there's a lot of stuff going around. I've experimented a lot with working out lightly vs sitting around and resting when I'm sick, and I find that the rest/nap/stay warm works much better for me, even though it's against my nature. But I am often able to head off an impending cold that way.

Awwww, hope you guys are feeling better, Bunbun. I know how unlike you it is to sit around.

I felt like I was fighting something all week, but I'm starting to feel better. Lots of rest, good food, and all the vitamin C, E and Zinc probably helped me a lot. That particular combination of supplements is what my mother swears by, and I really think she is right. So, don't forget your supplements! ;-)

-Nancy

55--yikes! I like my living space on the cool side, but that's downright frigid.

Thanks, Nancy. We're getting there--BF got the worst of it. Knock wood, I haven't had a bad cold since I started using obsessive-compulsive infection control measures at work. }( My co-workers think I'm nuts, but I wash my hands every time I touch a "public area," especially if I use the conference room or kitchen. I get teased a lot, but I've only had mild colds that have lasted 1-2 days this past year, even when there were some really nasty things going around.

I did try Airborne last week two times--not sure if it helped or not. I used zinc for years, but in the past year or two I get really nauseous when I use it, so I had to stop. I think it's all the placebo effect anyway, to tell the truth.

Oh, that's interesting, Bunbun. I had a bit of nausea earlier, and I couldn't figure out why. I'd better go easy on the zinc. Thanks!
