Garmin 201 :: how do I plug it into my laptop?

I wanted to download my training information onto my laptop, but the plug that came with the Garmin doesn't fit my Toshiba. Anyone else have this problem & know how to fix it?

My garmin eTrex came with a communications cable that has a 9 pin RS232 comm plug. Luckily my desktop computer has 2 of those ports but not many of the newer laptops do.

Your options would be to connect thru a laptop "docking station" or contacting Garmin to see if they sell a connection cable with a USB port, I imagine your laptop has one of those.

Thanks, Dave! Yes, I have a USB port. Maybe I'll check out Best Buy and see if they have the cable.

OK, I found the cable, but the computer is not recognizing my Garmin. I'm going to contact the company but wondered if anyone knew of a simple solution for this.

Did the Garmin come with any software? Can you download it?

You may have to preinstall the software first.

I downloaded the software from Garmin's website...I'm not sure what's going on here. Customer Support was closed on the weekend, so I'm going to have to give them a call this afternoon. That cable was $40, so they need to walk me through this!
