Games for baby shower??? Help!

Ladies:

I've been "volunteered" to come up with some games for an impending baby shower (this is what I get for not attending the meeting, I guess!). I am so NOT a game person and have no clue what to do. I know I could look online, but I thought some of you might be able to suggest games that you've actually played which were fun and not too painful for the coordinator (or the participants, for that matter). It's a standard length shower (2-3 hours), so how many games should I have ready?

Sorry, I didn't have any games at my baby shower (14 years ago, lol). I'm more of a Scrabble girl, you know...

At one of my baby showers everyone brought a baby picture of themselves and we played a guessing game with them. It was fun and really got people chatting and getting to know each other (you know how much we looove talkin' about ourselves:+ ). That's what came to mind first, if I think of others I'll be back:)

I saw this on tv once. Melt different types of candy bars and put it on a diaper (it's gross cause it looks like poo). Then everybody has to guess what type of candy bar it is. Who ever gets the most right gets a prize.
Have fun

Ok, I have hosted a couple of baby showers in my time. Some of the favorite games that I've used are:
1. How many sheets of toilet paper fit around the girth of the mother to be? You give everyone one roll of toilet paper and they have to count out how many pieces they believe will fit around the mother-to-be's belly. The closest wins.
2. This one is very simple, take a bunch of diapers, unused, however many guests you have is how many diapers you will need. Before hand take a melted candy bar (baby ruth is best!) place in one of the diapers. Whom ever has the messy diaper wins.
3. Baby food flavor testing. go the the store and buy about 5 jars of different baby foods. Have a couple be decent flavored, ie, fruit. Manybe throw one really vile tasting one in, ie, veal. Make sure that they are all just one ingredient. Give everyone a peice of paper before hand and have them mark 5 spaces for their guesses. Everyone has to taste each flavor and make a guess as to what it is. The person with the most correct wins.
4. Take some baby products, ie, bottte, rattle, pacifier, sippy cup. Place them all in a non see thru bag. Hint: write down what you put in for reference later. Have all guests once again number a piece of paper 1-however many items you have and have them all feel the bag for a certain number of minutes of seconds and guess as to what is in it. Once again, the person with the most correct wins.
that is all that I've done. They are different from the normal run of the mill baby shower games so they are fun for everyone. Well, excpet for the baby food tasting, I think most showers have that.
Have fun!

Marie, I think the important thing here is to make sure you never, EVER miss another meeting--lol! Oh--I'm with you on the whole scrabble thing and I would rather do an hour of cardio than have to play games at a baby shower. Well, maybe not an hour--:p

Hi Marie. I hate games so this was kind of fun. It's the standard "test your powers of observation and recall" baby shower game. Put a number of baby related items on a large tray and have someone slowly carry the tray in front of all the guests so they get a good look at the items (usually 10-15 seconds per guest glance). They think you'll be asking them to write down the items they remember seeing on the tray. But wait - now ask them questions about THE PERSON WHO WAS HOLDING THE TRAY! Eg - what color shoes, blouse, ears pierced or not, how many rings, etc. It's a riot to see their reaction and it makes it a fun departure from the typical games. Good luck!

Ladies, thanks so much for your ideas and input. I saw the diaper game on "Girls Next Door" and thought it was so gross! LOL I don't know if I can do that. I like the idea of the tray with the objects on it and then testing them on what the person is wearing.

And Michelle, I TOTALLY agree with you on never missing a meeting again. This is definitely punishment. I almost had to participate in the baking of small theme cakes, which would be h*ll on earth for my sadly undomesticated *ss, hehe. I know I am so bah-humbug, but I really hate being involved in these things. I would be more than happy to buy my way out of this with cash, lol.

;-)

edited for spelling (need coffee)

Marie,
If it's any consolation, I'm with you on the bah humbug. I find showers, in general, to be punishment...but the games? TORTURE! My solution is that I now just don't go to these things. Sorry you got roped in!

Cathy :)

I just went to a baby shower this weekend and was relived that there were no games involved. We did do the "pendulum", where the mom to be holds a pendulum on a string (some use a needle on a string) over her wrist and depending on which way it swings, will supposedly tell the gender of the baby. You could do that if she doesn't already know the gender.

The only other game I know is the baby food one. We didn't taste it though, just guessed by the color/appearance through the jar.

It's actually an adoptive mom and they don't have the baby yet (she is coming from China and it's taking forever). I wonder if there are any games more appropriate to that??

I know I sound like such a slug, but I really hate games at any type of shower. I think you should be able to eat and hover over the presents in peace!!!

I had a Guest Book as you entered. People signed their name but were also asked to write down some words of wishes for the mom to be. Next to the guest book we had a huge baby bottle filled with pastel colored M&M's and after you signed the book you wrote on piece of paper how many m&m's you thought were in the bottle and put your guess in a basket. The person who guessed the closest without going over got a prize. (Of course you have to count all the m&m's beforehand!)

I went to a shower where they would take some string and pass it around to everyone where they would cut off their piece that they think would fit around the mother. I think they gave a gift to the one who came closest. Also they took some MM's and filled a mason jar and people would have to guess how many were in the jar.
