Funny story

We've been getting spinach alfredo pizza occasionally (we justify it because it has spinach on it) and the other day my 9-year-old daughter brought some leftovers to school for lunch. She told me about a conversation she had about it with one of her friends.

Her friend saw the pizza and said, "EWWW!!! What IS that?!" Emily said, "It's spinach alfredo pizza." and the friend said, "EWWWW!!!! You eat SPINACH?!" and Emily said, "Of course, doesn't everyone?"

I love being a good influence on my kids!

Good for you! I still pack my children's lunches. My DD is a senior and only has a few months left of school and my son is in the 10th grade. My son hangs out with a few of the guys in school that care about what they eat so that pleases me. DD is just totally grossed about McDonald's food now that her teacher had her read a book on McDonald's food...forget what it is called.

Charlotte, are you talking about Fast Food Nation?

Kristy, my dd had a conversation like that with someone from school about brocolli. Mariah loves it, but this girl made fun of her. We talked about it, and I asked her how she felt about brocolli. She said that she loves it no matter what anyone says, and pack it for her the next day. :) You would die if you heard some of the things that ds eats! Tofu, lentil soups, cooked spinach all by itself... he is truly amazing! :) It is great that we can guide our kids down the right path with all this junk and sugar around them, huh? :D

I am getting ready to! :) I heard that it is very intense. have you ever seen supersize me? The idea for that movie came from the book, so I am going to read it as a follow up. What did your DD say about it? And sorry for hijacking, Kristy! Didn't mean to, just kinda happened.

DD talks about the book alot. She says McD's sprinkles sugar onto their salads. I am not sure that is true though. I mean I have bought the side salads and it is just lettuce, tomatoes I am tasting. Believe me, I would know it if I tasted sugar! She also said about 80 nutritionist say you should NEVER eat McD's food EVER! I am going to rent Supersize Me this weekend I think. I really want to see it.

My kids eat all kinds of crazy stuff (other kids think it's crazy, not me.) They like spinich, tofu, chard, kale, beets, brussels sprouts, broccoli, I could go on and on. The only thing they won't eat is brown rice. My husband is the picky one.

they will eat tofu and kale but they won't eat brown rice! LOL!!! My dh is the pickiest person I know. He was raised on boxed and frozen meals, so the food that I cook is very bland compared to the high salt and sugar content of what he is used to. I have been trying different seasonings to try and change his mind, though. ;)

My daughter has odd likes and dislikes.

She loves lots of veggies, too, like brussels sprouts, lima beans, along with all the usual peas, corn, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, etc. Loves fruit. Loves seafood and fish, including things like mussels.

She doesn't like cookies. WTH is up with that? She doesn't eat cookies or cake or really anything sweet. She does like salty things like chips and tortilla chips though.

I pack my 14 year old son's lunch every day and it's always healthy. He principal has twice made comments to me about the lunches my DS eats.

My 4 year old DD on the other hand will eat the following foods and nothing else:

scrambled eggs (she calls them by their full name, chicken eggs)
macaroni and cheese
hamburger helper
chicken strips
apples
bananas
lettuce with ranch dressing
cereal
ice cream
cookies
yogurt
peanut butter

My 2 year old has some unique tastes as well. I would have to say that her favorite food is salmon... of all things! She has been eating it since she was about 16 months old. It's the one thing I KNOW she will always eat. She also loves broccoli and green beans and about every fruit imaginable. I am very happy about that.

My daughter's all-time favorite food is tomatoes. Sometimes we'll get those little boxes of grape tomatoes and if I leave them out, she'll eat the whole box. I feel bad stopping her.

"No! Stop eating those incredibly healthy tomatoes! Eat these void-of-nutrition crackers instead!"
