functional strength?

I've heard that power hour will give me functional strength, but I'm not exactly sure what this means. Also, if I go from a Slow and Heavy rotation to a Power Hour rotation will I lose some of the strength I gained with S&H because I won't be lifting as heavy a weight?
 
I'm pretty certain she means "strength to perform activities of normal daily life". Lifting, twisting, climbing. You won't injure yourself doing things like mucking out stalls or shoveling snow like an unfit person.
