Frankenstein...who's reading it and who already has?

Just taking a quick headcount of who's currently reading Frankenstein, and would love some input from those who already have read it.

I'm in the middle of Chapter 16 and just find the pages turning SO quickly! I got thru the first 35 pages or so early last week, then got sidetracked with a party I was getting ready to host (this past Friday). But I picked up the book yesterday morning, sat on my outdoor swing and am now 2/3 of the way done.

I don't want to say too much about what's going on in the book right now, nor my opinions (other than I'm totally enjoying this book) because I don't want to spoil anything for anybody. I just find myself wanting to talk about it.

The only thing I'll say is that going INTO this book, I had NOOOO idea what this was about. I mean, I knew it was about creating another person or monster, but that was the ONLY thing I knew! LOL

SO......who's reading it, and who has already read it? Would you guys be willing to chat about it when I'm (and maybe others) are done? (if I recall correctly, Janie was reading it also?)

Gayle

I just finished listening to it on the classics tales podcast - it came in 8 installments, 1 installment/week. Wow! I loved it, too. Not at all like the movies. It made me almost angry at how Hollywood has really lost the whole feeling of Shelley's book.

I finished it not too long ago, and I have to say it was a great book. Not at all like the movies. Yes, a little disturbed too, how Hollywood made it completely different from the book.

Give it a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Gayle, I read it a few months ago & like you, I was totally surprised at the story. Absolutely nothing like what Hollywood has given us.

I saw a fascinating Biography on it about a month ago. Evidently Shelley based it on a real man (or a few real men, depending on who you ask). Maybe you can see it online at biography.com, it was quite an eye opener.

Good to know I'm not alone at my surprise of this story. My BFF has been chatting with me about it these last 3 days or so as I read it and she was interested to compare the book to the movie also (she never read the book, but HAS seen the movie).

The issue I own is REALLY old; I got it from my HS when they were cleaning out the English department library that year (I got my hands on a few of these older classics) and it has a brief interview with Shelley in the beginning. I haven't read that yet, because I didn't want it to take away from my suspense of reading this; I'm going to read that tonight, and then may check out that biography you mention, Laura.

For some reason, reading Frankenstein now gave me the urge to read Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. :D

Oooh! Let me know if you do--I'm in. ;)

I just put this on hold at the library. I've been reading fluff lately (with the exception of my current book) So now I am going to give this one a go. I've always wanted to read it. Glad to hear you ladies are liking it.
