Hope this helps somebody. Disclaimer: I'm NO expert--just getting started--so take this recommendation with a grain of salt. I found some cycling shoes on Amazon for $49.47 with $7.44 shipping Amazon.com: Louis Garneau Air Flora Shoe - Women's: Sports & Outdoors
I actually swallowed the bait and got the Amazon rewards Visa so I could get $40 off the order which made it $20 with shipping. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to afford them right now.
I was looking for something less-expensive that I could use for CycleMax. The reviews were few but very good. They can use SPD cleats. The materials are synthetic, but the price was much better than anything else I could find. The company shipped the same day (no Super-Saver shipping, though
). I didn't realize the company was in Utah (where I live), so I received them in less than 24 hours! I wear a size 8.5 in running shoes, and my feet are wide. After reading the reviews, I decided to try a size 41. They seem to fit really well, but I'm not sure how cycling shoes are supposed to fit. These have room in the toes and might slip a tiny bit in the heel if I were to walk in them, which you don't. Maybe I could have gotten away with a size 40, but I didn't want them too small. They don't slip when I pedal and feel comfortable. Oh, and they're really cute (I got the Flash Blue). Sorry, I got the last size 41 that was on sale.
