forward lunge vs. backward lunge

I'm wondering if there is any real difference in the muscles used/worked when doing forward lunges vs. backward lunges (i.e. in PS series)? I am not as adept at the forward lunges and feel like my form is not as good as with backward lunges...feel a little "clumsy" going forward... and wondered if it would matter if I did them all backward?
