For you P90X folks...

Cathlete
I just got my P90X set tonight and i wanted to get a pull up bar likethe one Tony demonstrated in Bring It but i don't see it on beachbody. Any ideas? Alternatives? I'm a little leery of something hanging from my door jamb....

Thanks!

Lisa~I also got my Power Tower from Dick's Sporting Goods. Some of the gals here had gotten it on sale for $79.00 instead of the normal $99.00 and I made mention of that to the sales guy and he honored THAT price! Also, you need high ceilings to be able to use it.

My DH doesn't like the idea of a doorjamb bar and I can see why (we stood under it this morning and tested - not a good idea, at least for us). We don't really have enough space for one of those stands - the workout room doubles as the family room!). I was looking at the bands on the P90X site nd they say you can connect them to a doorjamb but I don't understand how. Anyone know? Next question: anyone have an alternative exercise to the pull ups?

Thanks for your help!

Lisa,
You can still gain great upper body strength and muscle definition by using the bands. Do you have anything you can drape them over? My workout room is a renovatated garage, and the overhead garage door is still there for now. I draped the bands over the rod that goes across the garage door. Truthfully, I used this more than I used my powertower. I used the bands over the rod on my powertower sometimes, but I rarely use the tower. My back became very cut using this technique.
Granted this isn't chin ups but you still can get a great workout with the bands. (alot cheaper)
Just a thought. ;-)

Hmmm - I'd have to think about that. I have a videogame cabinet - I wonder if I could use that? I'll try it tonight. Thanks for the idea!

When I started my P90X rotation, I didn't have bands or a pull-up bar, so I just substituted heavy 1-arm lat rows and pullovers for all the pull-ups and chin-ups. Then I got a set of bands from Beachbody (they are very good quality). I got the heaviest set they have, and attached them to the top of my door (with a door attachment I got from www.sissel-online.com , which was much more secure-seeming than the attachment that Beachbody sells). Then I caved and got an actual pull-up tower!f But I would still do a few sets with my heavy bands (also with a heavier one I got from www.power-systems.com ), just so I could get in a decent quantity of reps!

I have the bands and I used them with the kit that Beachbody sells. They give you a vinyl piece of material that you basically loop around the hinge. I am not sure if we attached it the way Beachbody tells you too (b/c their directions are El Stinko  ) but we did it like a slip knot and it worked out great. Then you close the door and loop the band through the loop in the hinge. It is very safe and I have had no issue with it. Plus, you can close the door with it attached and it doesn't look too hideous. My living room doubles as my workout room so this is important ;)

Edited to say that I get a great workout and have gained much strength using the bands. I am three bands higher (and only one away from the strongest that they make) from when I started.

Hi Lisa. I ordered P90X on March 3rd. I ordered it express, but it got put in regular. I've called a few times & they say it was sent out on the 10th from Torrance. My question, when did you order? How long did it take you to get it? Thanks for any information you can give. Coleen

I ordered on the 16th of March and got it yesterday. Good luck with yours!

Thanks for the ideas - I bought some bands fro Target today (Prospirit) - I got red and blue (medium to hard). I'll try the door thing!
