For those of you who do "Santa"

Gift for Santa

My niece when she was smaller told her Mom....Mom, Santa always gives us gifts I want to give him one back. My niece was always into stuff animals and her room was filled with them. She asked her Mom if they could go to Build a Bear and build Santa a bear. She rapped him up and place a note with it that she wanted to do something nice for Santa. My sister still has that bear to this day.

Love this thread as my DS is now 3.5 too and just really getting into Xmas now. I got a gift at work and when he saw it at home he knew to put it under the tree. His day-care made Reindeer food which we will sprinkly on the lawn Xmas Eve. I also intend to have him put out milk and cookies this year. I love reliving the joy of Xmas thru his eyes.:)

Now, does this make me a bad Mom? He is still not potty trained yet so I told him that to show Santa that he is a big boy he should start using the toilet or else Santa may not bring his gift that he wants. I'm at my wits end here.:(

:)I dont have kids .. but LOVED Christmas and Santa! My parents always had my aunt and uncle over .. we ate .. baked cookies .. and sang and watched the Christmas shows on TV .. when it got time for bed (for which I was NOT sleepy) we would put out cookies and milk .. and carrotts for the deer ..

Dad used to have a CB radio (remember them) and he would have one of his friends call him and tell him he just saw Santa and his sleigh headed our way .. Dad would call us in and have us listen .. then he had someone say "ho ho ho Merry Christmas" over the radio .. and he would tell us if we were not asleep and in bed Santa would miss our house .. to which we scurried off to our beds and always managed to fall asleep! I was AMAZED ...

they left Santa's presents unwrapped under the tree .. usually the bigger presents - just a couple but enough ... the cookies were always gone and 1/2 glass of milk was always left ..... WONDERFUL memories!!

My kids were cyber slick from birth-and we always sent Santa an email! We still track him on line on the 24th! Still leaving out cookies for him and carrots for the reindeer.....
It got sticky when eldest was 5 she fussed that her Jewish friends wouldn't get presents because they didn't believe....then seeing Toys for Tots - why wasn't Santa bringing THEM a ton of loot?!!!! As I stammered for an answer, she came up with it - as only a 5 year old can - and said, "Mama, Santa must just bring a little thing to everyone, or even just happiness, because how could he fit ALL those toys on the sleigh? And Moms and Dads must do the rest to help, right?"........that worked for me!
NOW,she's 17,son is 12 and HE and his pals feel (they go to a Christian school, lots of mysticism abounds this time of year have decided there MUST be a Santa/St.Nick spirit that touches each receptive home to him - because they ALL have heard things on the roof, and the family feels more special on Christmas, so THAT must be what Santa is, a spirit.......THAT works for me too!!!!!

We lie under the tree (daugther and I) and hold hands and close our eyes. Then we pretend to fly to the north pole. We talk about what we see along the way and what is going on when we get there. We usually do this the night of the 23rd. Once we've "looked" around, we fly back home. It is a lot of fun and the imagination is an amazing thing! Santa always leaves a letter for her. We've made reindeer food to put outside before too. The one thing that meant the most to her that Santa did was last year, as he was coming down the chimney, he dropped one of her presents into the fireplace but hmmm, he didn't notice it so she found it there when she went to get her stocking. She was just absolutely amazed by that and still talks about it. We have a special plate that is just for Santa too and we put homemade Christmas cookies in it, along with a drink. Once (either last year or the year before), she put out a Diet Coke but Santa went into our fridge and switched it out for a caffiene free Diet Coke and left her a note to that effect - she was blown away that he had actually opened our fridge! She is 8 this year and Santa is excited about making his visit - as I write, she is getting ready to mail her letter.

Shana, what you and your DD do is so sweet.

Ooops!!:eek::eek::eek:

LMAO, guess I should have thought that one thru a bit better, hahaha!!

This is a great thread, with so many great ideas! Thanks to all for playing with me!

My DS is 9 and starting to question it Santa is real. Whenever he brings it up I change the subject. I'll eventually need to sit down and have "the talk" with him. On the other hand, this is the first year my 4 year old DD has been excited about Santa. Everyday she asks me if Santa is coming and sings Santa Claus is Coming to Town over and over:)

Speaking of Santa Claus is coming to town, I found this vile video on YouTube where they changed the words of that song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iX5QOUaQLQ&feature=related

I can't believe that members of a Baptist church put this out. It's very hateful and just plain wrong. I'm a Christian myself but i can't justify what they've done here.

Kara,

In our house when I was a kid, Santa also only brought 1 gift (usually a huge stuffed animal) and our stockings, Mom and Dad and Grandma & Bapa supplied the rest. Mom said that then when we found out the "truth" it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Even after we did know, that one gift still always had a tag that said "From Santa".

On Christmas Eve Mom always read us "T'was the Night Before Christmas" I remember she'd always start with reading the title: "T'was the Night before Christmas by Clement C. Moore". We'd both sit on the couch, one on each side of her as she read the book by the light of the Christmas tree. The family always put up the tree on Christmas Eve day so that night was the first it'd be on and we'd have all the other lights off while she read the story. It was truely magical.

Christmas is magical!

For our kids we do way too much!!:D I'm not sure if we do it more for me or for them...

We have elves that come to visit us. We got them at www.elf-magic.com I am pretty sure that someone here posted about them years ago and that's where I got the ideas. We have had them for about 5 years. We have the smaller version. (They are about $20 each). They come with great elf names!!

We write a letter to Santa in November asking if the Elves can come to visit us again this year. The elves "come back" Thanksgiving night and stay until Christmas Eve, when they have to go back with Santa. Every night that they are here they are sprinkled with special snowflakes (that come with the elves) and they come alive at night! They build towers out of the presents, toilet paper the rooms, build a sledding hill with the ironing board, pop popcorn and watch movies, look up Santa at www.northpole.com on the computer...We never know where we are going to find the elves in the morning!!

Sometimes the elves leave us notes about our behavior (good and bad). We know that they tell Santa everything that they see! One night last week I was too tired to do the dinner dishes and we all went to bed, leaving the mess, and when we woke up the Elves had done the dishes!! (There are a LOT of ideas about elf adventures on the website...I am not that creative!!)

We also receive extra $$ from my brother at Thanksgiving and have to give it away to someone who we feel is in need. It is a huge decision for the kids. Every year they pick something/someone different. This year DD--8 yrs. chose a student in her class and we sent the $$ anonymously in the mail to the boy with a handmade card. DS--6 yrs. chose to put his $$ in the Salvation Army kettle. When we see my brother again at Christmas we will talk about how we gave the money away.

We also leave cookies for Santa, and leave reindeer food in the front yard. The elves also bring us new pajamas Christmas Eve for us to wear. They also leave us some special bath crystals for our bedtime bath. The special crystals turn the bath red (or blue, or whatever color they brought) and make the kids sleepy---just a little bit!

Santa does NOT wrap presents in our house. (We take every toy out of the package and put the toy together...batteries, etc.) Christmas morning, Mom and Dad drink coffee on the couch and watch the whole thing unfold, since all the unwrapping/unpacking/cutting of the wires, etc. has already been done by the elves and Santa!! This is one of my favorite traditions!

At the house of one of our friends, Santa only brings 3 presents, just as Jesus received 3 from the Wisemen. I like this idea, but we have never implemented it at our house.

I am sure that we do more...like I said I think it is more for me!! I don't ever remember anyone telling me that Santa wasn't real. I do remember believing well past sixth grade, and obviously I still have the true spirit alive in my heart and actions with my kids!!

This is a great thread! I love sharing these ideas with each other!

Merry Christmas!!
Jenn
