For the love of an animal

Cathlete
I just purchased a small refrigerator for my two boxers. :D Costco had a small whirlpool for a very reasonable price.

I've been feeding my two boxers a raw diet (raw meat, raw veggies, fruits) that required freezing. I would thaw out a few days at a time. Reason for the diet, is my girl cannot tolerate preservatives and my boy can't handle the grains in kibble.

Recently, our local grocery store started carrying Fresh Pet Select food, so we decided to give our guys a few samples to see how they would handle it.
My guys are skipping to their food bowls in the morning and they have transitioned to the new food with ease! The happy skip makes my heart swell.
No vomitting, diarrhea or bloating (what happens when I feed kibble).

Anyway, we bought a small fridge for the new food because the manufacturer doesn't recommend freezing.

Mercedes and Maximus give 4 paws up for Fresh Pet Select!!!

Cynthia ~

Now you are someone I would love to have buy one of my grandbabies!! Any chance you would add a choc lab to your mix? LOL I can't tell you the kind of things I have bought for my babies, adults & puppies alike.

When I saw the post I knew it had to be you!! What a good mommy you are. I have heard good things about the raw diet for dogs.

Thanks for posting this! I have been looking for alternatives to my little ladies' kibble for a while now. I think I'll try to track this down and see if they like it.

Tami,

If it weren't for my husband....I think I would have 10 fur babies! They are a heck of a lot cheaper than skin kids!
Raw is not for everyone, but it sure helped improve the quality of my boxer's life. When I switched to whole food, there was immediate improvement. I mean, like overnight!. They just couldn't handle processed food. I was making trips to the vet's office every single month for the first year of my boy's life. Now, my two go once a year for a healthy check-up:D

Next vet visit, I'm going to bring some to my vet. I'm going to try and convince him to put a fridge in his waiting room!

Lisa,

I'll bet money your guys will like this stuff! Let me know. I want to hear how your guys skip to the food bowl. My girl keeps going back licking her empty bowl. It's so cute:p
Yippee! This food has a real expiration date! Last only a month in the fridge;)

Lisa,

Thank you for sharing your experience with Fresh Pet Select. I bought some and my little girl LOVES it. She is going on 11 years old, she is going to the vet on Friday to remove her two front teeth. They are lose. I even have a step for her to get on so it's easier for her to get on my bed, otherwise it's too hard for her.

My only regret is that I haven't heard about this before. I've attempted to make her food, found lots of recipes, but it made her vomit even after I slowly transitioned her in a months time.

Now my little Molly (part chauhauh and yorky) will now have tasty morsels. Just want the best for her the rest of her life. I've always spoiled her and she deserves it because she makes me happy and laugh.

Thanks again,

Janie

I'm so glad to hear this Janie!

My husband brought me the brochure home from our grocery store. They just started carrying this brand. It's about time too!!

I've been ordering fresh food from Ohio (A Place for Paws). It was costing me so much in shipping every month, but I had to do it.
Through much trial and error, and numerous trips to the vet, I had to find a food my two could tolerate.

I tried cooking, but it was a pain to do. My boy boxer can only handle a small amount of grain. No corn for sure. He bloats on too much grain.

I wasn't sure if he could tolerate Freshpet. It has a very small amount of rice so he's doing just fine with it.:D
They LOVE it too!

Thank you Cynthia ..

I have been looking into switching to a RAW diet (or part RAW part organic) for my big babies .. they suffer w/allergies .. and seems to always be some sort of digestive problems going on .. I have the big one under control .. but my girl STILL has allergies .. her skin is itchy and dry and has some hair loss .. the vet treats her w/steroids and I just want to find another treatment .. no shampoos I have found works.. so it has got to be the diet .. I have done trial and error w/everything ... the food is the only thing left ...

My dogs wieght 135 and 125 pounds .. so that was one concern I had w/the RAW diet .. they need "large breed" nutrition .. for their joints and bones .. right now they get Bill Jac Large Breed ... (after much research on dogfood) .. but my girl still is not responding ..

I will have to do some looking into Fresh Pet Select .. I really want the best for my big babies .. and sure do want to get a handle on the allergies! any info you have I would appreciate!:)

Poochy,

I spent a lot of money on vet visits trying to figure everything out. When I took my two off kibble (6 years ago), I sought out a holistic vet for guidance as far as what to feed and how to supplement. First thing this vet sold me was a copy of Dr. Pitcairn's guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats.

It was through much trial and error I found the solution to my boxer's allergies. It's a long process of ellimination.
My girl was vomiting almost everyday. She was the easy one to figure out. She flat out cannot tolerate any preservatives.
My boy was more challenging. He had diarrhea everyday and bloating every other month. We spent a lot of money on emergency vet visits. He was scheduled to have his stomach stapled to his ribcage. That wouldn't solve the bloating, but it would prevent the stomach from turning during his bloat episodes.

He didn't have his first solid stool until I switched him to raw. It was an overnight fix for him. He didn't have the stomach surgery. He's been doing great!

Not all allergies are food related, but for my two it was true.

I know it's frustrating. You are probably spending a fortune in vet bills and it's awful to see our dogs suffer.

If it is food related, grain often times the culprit. It was true for my boy. He can tolerate grain in small amounts.
I'm not sure what is in Bill Jac. Freshpet has a very small amount of grain. I think it's two cups of veggies to every one cup of brown rice.
