for runners - pain in hip?

hey runners

i've been on a plan to increase my weekly mileage from 10 miles to 15. it involved going from three times a week to four. when i hit twelve miles last week my left hip started bothering me. it's the same side that my physical therapist had told me my IT band was tight. i've read but with iliolateral band syndrome you get pain on the outside of the knee. my knee is fine, it's just right on my hip. when i do the standing iliolateral band stretch is quite painful in that hip. but how do i tell if it's that or piriformis syndrome or something else? i havent' run now in four days and it's still quite painful. suggestions?
