How much foot movement can you safely do on the rebounder? how high do you actually jump on one?

I recently read a thread about using the rebounder for some of Cathe's cardio to save the knees, and am wondering how much of her hi-lo, or the blast section of kickmax, for example, I could do on the rebounder.

My husband is pretty well convinced I'm a trip in an ambulance waiting to happen if I get a rebounder. He also fears for our ceiling fans :)

Thanks for any input you can give.

Hi,
I have one and do a lot of my higher impact on the rebounder. Don't worry. It's pretty safe. You don't actually jump on it per se. You bounce or actually do the moves on it. If you have access to the instructional DVD (rebounder - JB Berns), he says to keep your abs tight and press your feet down into the rebounder rather than jump. I usually jump on my rebounder whenever Cathe does the airbound jumps or any high impact I'm not comfortable doing. I usuually do 1-2 days of high impact on the floor and modify the rest. I'm 45 years old and have neck and back problems and this helps. Also, I will stay on the rebounder when she does some moves that I can't do on it and just jog on it. This keeps your heartrate up.

Thanks for taking the time to make these helpful suggestions. My husband is thinking "rebounder = mini-trampoline" and it sounds like it really isn't so. I think my knees are the only part of me that feels almost 43, so this rebounder might be the perfect birthday gift.

Thanks again

Anna

I use my rebounder a lot and like larajc says you should jump more down into the mat than up. I also only jump up when I do tuck-jumps with Cathe, but even then it is mostly pulling my knees up.

I love high impact moves but my body doesn't so my rebounder is a great thing. You can really get your heart rate up on those things, and I can get a great leg workout by really focusing my work down into the mat, like trying to hit the floor with my foot/feet. Cathe's IMAX2 "geenie arm" interval is a good example of a leg burner on the rebounder.

Good luck
Pam
