Hi, Miss lladehawk! Say, you mentioned on a previous thread, I think in the Video forum, that you have a set of adjustable threaded dumbbells.

I'm curious as to where you can buy them online, and how high up you can adjust the weight load on each dumbbell. I'm also curious as to how comfortable you find the grip on them, and whether you feel they are worth the investment.

I currently have numerous dumbbell sets: 8-lbs (don't use at all these days), 10 lbs (ditto), 12-lbs, 15-lbs, 20 lbs. and one 25-lb'er. They're like rabbits in my storage cabinet, breeding and multiplying. Are adjustable threaded dumbbells a good space saver?

Thanks!

Annette

Hi Annette,
Hope you don't mind my butting in here.
I have adjustable dumbbells - two sets - that I got in sets with my barbells. I've seen them at sporting goods stores sold without the barbells, though.
I've loaded mine up to 50 lbs. with no problem, but the bigger weight plates do get kind of awkward on a dumbbell. The grips are fine - I have two different kinds, one grip I like better than the other.
I think the pros would be that you can adjust the dumbbells to any weight you want. The bad part, for me, is that it can be time consuming if I need to change the weights in the middle of a workout. It sounds like you already have a pretty complete set of dumbbells, though.

Hi Annette,
I'm going to butt in too! Just wanted to let you know I saw adjustable dumbells on the Bollinger site...there's a link to it somewhere on the forum right now, under Super Step I believe.
I don't know anything about them, just happened to notice them on the site.

Hi Annette

I bought the dumbbells locally at a "serious" weightlifting outlet...very good equipment. I imagine you can buy them online also. I think there are pros and cons. You can probably load them as heavy as you want. Primarily that was the reason I bought them because I could use my weights from the long bar and get a heavier load instead of buying all of the hex's. I think a combination of both is nice. Plus you can increment them in smaller weights. Seems like the hex's come in 5# increments which might be too heavy one step up...

I am sorry I bought this very expensive weight bench though because I see now that the Step works just fine...and now I have this big old thing and no place to put it. It does have a leg extension on it so perhaps down the road I may end up using it more. Sort of one of those impulsive buys.

When I have time...I am a little rushed tonight...I will see if I can find a website for the dumbbells.

One other thought, Annette...I like the adjustable dumbbell because I can put a larger weight on it for doing triceps extensions...I don't mean heavier I mean bigger in circumference. That way my hands don't overlap. It always felt awkward to me having them overlapped and I felt like one arm was working harder. That is just me!

RE: Thanks for responses!

Thanks to all of you for your input! In retrospect, I think I'm not going to invest in an adjustable set, especially considering the time it might take during a workout to add and subtract weight loads. Time is one thing that's starting to get away from me! I'll just have to get rid of my 8- and 10-lb'ers, and buy some heavier hexes and barbell weight plates!

(don't tell my husband . . .)

Thanks again!

Annette
