For a while now, I felt that I am not challenged by my workouts anymore.

So, I added a three mile run after a Cathe workout like "Gauntlet", but after about two months with about 9 miles/week added, I reached the point of wanting something more.

TODAY, I found the perfect solution. Instead of running I skipped rope 1/2 mile. Every 20 skips I switched my main leg and before hitting the right leg again I speed jumped for 50. I felt really great and I am planning on replacing one run day with this routine.

Exercise is GREAT!!!!

Skipping rope is a great workout. I find myself doing this when on a business trip and do it in the hotel room. My electric went out right in the middle of Boot Camp one night. So, I picked up my rope and did 30 minutes. It was great. I jump similar to you. 25 on one leg, 25 on the other, 50 speed jumps feet together and then 50 alternating legs.

Have fun!

I would love to ease into jumping rope. How do you do one leg? Are you actually hopping on just one leg?

Give me a few suggestions to get into it without having a heart attack in the first 30 seconds! I am not adapted. I do own a sturdy leather jumprope.

In order for me to 'jump' down the street, I kinda JOG over the rope with either the left or right leg in the lead.

The speed jumps go with your feet together at a faster pace and you stay on one spot - those do a number on your heartrate.

Jumping rope is as much fun as jumping on a tramboline IMHO and if you land softly, it's pretty much low impact.

Thanks for the great ideas! I haven't jumped rope in a LONG TIME and it sounds like fun. I know I tried it a while ago and MAN it was an awesome workout, I was tired after about 5 minutes, though.... UGH!!

Cheers, Marcia :)

Connie-

I think I may have been a little misleading about my one leg jumping. I meant to say I jump right leg first for 25 and then left leg first for 25. Feet together jumping for the speed jumping and alternating right leg and left leg jumping. Give it a try, it is a great cardio workout, calves and shoulders get sore when I jump too.

Have a great day!!

Aha, thank you Beverly and Katerchen! I might be able to give it a try. I'd love to have a good jump rope video, so I could become a champ! :p :p :7

I will try the split landings interspersed with double foot landings, with some good music on perhaps.
