Foot pain

I've been experiencing pain in my feet lately, which, unfortunately, I am pretty sure comes from doing lunges. The lunge puts your back foot in an awfully stressful stretch, with your toes completely bent forward on the floor. My back foot always hurts while I am in the lunge position.

Does anyone think that wearing shoes could help? I always weight train in my bare feet. I've been told by doctors that I have arthritis in my toes, which doesn't help anything. Does anyone have any suggestions? Perhaps there is a way to modify the lunge? I couldn't bear to give up my lunges; they have done wonders for my glutes! :-(

Oh Nancy. I can imagine what you mean. Try it with shoes. My shoes prevent my toes from moving like this. (Imagine doing lunges with ski boots on!)

The work is concentrated more onto the larger muscles with shoes. I think you are onto something good using your bare feet. Smaller muscles can pitch in to help.

But if you alternate barefoot with shod weight workouts you will probably clear up the pain while still getting the benefits of barefoot.
