Flaxseed and Lecithin Oil calories

I logged on to the fitday.com site, which Lorrie suggested, and I just can't believe that my calorie intake went up by adding these two supplements to my diet. I haven't even had my after lunch snack, dinner, and after dinner snack. My total of calories consumed was beyond 4,300 calories at lunch time.
My doctor told me to take these supplements, but I had no idea it would pack on a couple of thousands of calories, my goodness!!! That means I have been consuming about 6-7,000 calories a day. Should I stop taking these, do I really need them?
Did anyone know this? I'm sorry to go on but I'm shocked.

Lourdy, check your serving size & then check the Fitday input. Flaxseed & lecithin are fats so 1 gm = 9 cal.

Flaxseed is trendy but is a useful addition to our diets. I don't understand a lecithin supplement. It was trendy in the '70's but it's everywhere! Lecithin is a natural emulsifier (thickener) found in egg yolks. Very few Americans have a shortage.

I have a flaxseed supplement. One capsule give 1,000 mg of omega 3 and has 10 calories. Check the serving size and adjust it. I input peanut butter for a tablespoon and the computer gave me a readout for a cup. So I changed the serving size and it adjusted it.

Peanut butter serving 1 tablespoon 100 calories 8 grams fat

I'll bet it's given you the information for a larger portion than you take in.

After you input the correct serving, hit the save changes button on the bottom of the screen. Keep an eye on what the final result is; I've had to adjust things several times because the computer choses a different serving size. If you took in that many calories a day, you'd blow up like a baloon!

I feel sooo stupid. Yes, I did go home Friday night and check my flaxseed oil capsules and they read 25 calories per capsule, that's when I realized something was wrong, like my input on the computer. Anyway, it was sooo funny, because when I got home I told my husband I have been eating like a pig, and I was starting to feel like one. He busted out laughing, and said to me I had a psychological disorder, and that all cows wished they looked like me. That was nice!!!

Oh, Lourdy, you just made me laugh so hard! Aren't husbands wonderful?!

Don't feel stupid. It's the website. In fact, I noticed that the foods I input as custom foods don't come up exactly as I put them in. For example I put in a whole wheat bread with a serving size of 1.55 oz but when I chose that saved custom food, it came up a one oz serving, and I had to change it. Also the maple syrup, comes up as a liter instead of a tablespoon, so you have to pay attention and also know what serving size you are eating! That difference is thousands of calories! I don't know why it doesn't save the serving sizes but I still think it's a pretty good site.

Hi Bobbi, the site fitday is a great tool to have. I thank you for letting me in on this. It's right after lunch for me, and I've consumed 1500 calories, so I guess I won't be shooting for this amount as my goal, heee, heee. I am going to try to lean toward 2200 calories and see how that works. It seams I have been consuming about 2700 calories or a little more a day, so if I can deduct 500 for now, maybe once my stomach shrinks a bit, I can deduct another 200 and shoot for staying at around 2000 calories. What do you think? :-hmmm

Hi, Lourdy,

2000 is a good number to aim for. It also makes nutrition labels easy to use since they are based on a 2000 calorie diet. remember, you can subtract the calories burned through exercise from you total. I find I get hungry if I eat less than 1800 but it varies. Some days I feel great and other days all I can think about is food. I am trying to drop a little fat I've added to my hips and tummy in the past years. I am not as concerned with weight as with fatness ( I know that isn't a word but it describes the condition well) and just weighed myself which I haven't done in ages. I weigh 129. I am 5 feet, 7 inches tall and up to 2200 calories works well for me I think! I have recently gone clean in my diet, really clean and I like it but it's hard too. Of course, chocolate on Fridays and something decadent on Saturdays is a must. So far so good. I like the site. In fact I am heading there to plug in my food intake since I didn't get online this morning!

Good to "talk" to you!

Bobbi
