Flab Blaster 1/30

Good morning girls...

I didn't get to do an official workout although I got in a few sets of shoulders, triceps and abs before bed. Tracy, I am with you- everyone's nap schedule has been off and if I can't get everyone to nap at approximately the same time I have to deal w/everyone trying to "work out" with me. (FYI Trevor is also from Annapolis)

The kids have a 1/2 day of school and I need to take the little ones in for shots so hopefully I'll get a real workout in this afternoon.

What is the rotation for Feb? I need to get more on track like before Christmas. Eating hasn't been that bad this week, as always I need to drink more water.

Pinky, I know you had mentioned your midsection- how are your abs? Notice a big difference adding more cardio? I noticed that seems to be the place I appear "bulkier" at times although I never had a problem before. I'm trying to do more planks to take care of it- Yuck.

Hope everyone gets over the blahs- had them last week. We need a little sunshine around here.

Brenda

Hi ladies,

Brenda, last Sunday I did CTX-UB followed by CTX Kickbox + KPC combos. I wore 1.5-lb gloves on each hand while kickboxing, this after doing CTX-UB, so my shoulders were sore. Well, day after I did the pikes on the stability ball, and I think that pushed my right shoulder to the edge. Also, last Monday I did CTX Power Circuits minus the hi/lo section. Since this would only last about 30 min., I decided to do it twice for a full hour workout. And since it works out the legs, I used lighter weights for the first round, and heavier weights for the second round. Well, my left knee didn't like those alternate lunges where you pulse three times before going back up, so with my body feeling crappy, I had to stop working out.:-( So I went shopping instead and got a pair of Adidas that fit my arches perfectly and were being cleared out for 40% off.

Sabine, I totally understand that alarm clock thing. When I was single and working for a slavedriver who got riled up if you were as much as a minute late -- God forbid you get to your cubicle after 8 a.m. en punto -- I developed this habit of throwing my clock against the wall. Thank goodness my neighbors never complained about my bad behavior. I simply am not a morning person. Thanks for caring about my knee.:) I did PH yesterday minus the leg work, although I did the leg work in the warm-up. Then I did 30 min. of Susan Deason's Yoga for Women. It felt good. I haven't done a yoga workout in 3 months.

Tracy, I'm with you on rotations. I posted a rotation early this month but wasn't able to follow it since my son got sick, then I had a sinus infection. Plus, with me pushing myself overboard, I'd had to rest a while. I think for next month I'll simply go with the flow. I still like to alternate a strength week and an endurance week, but I'll let my body tell me which workouts to do.

Shywolf, something's definitely in the air, what with most of us not being able to stick to our workouts this week for one reason or another. On the bright side, next week's a new week, and I'm hoping it'll bring us more workout time, more cooperative kids (my boy's behavior has been very problematic lately, but that's another story), better eating, and more durable -- is this an appropriate word? -- body parts.:)

And yeah Brenda, my abs are better. Yippee!:7 I lost an inch around my waist without losing a pound, and I am thrilled! Yes, cardio made a big difference, but I credit a lot of this to clean eating. Mind you, it has been SOOOO HAAAARRRD, especially during the weekends when we're out and eating on the run. Lots of egg whites, oatmeal, protein powder, soy milk, apples and vegetables in evenly-spaced hours. Again, so hard. I did cardio before breakfast off and on for the last three weeks. In one thread Trevor advised against this since doing so will only break down muscle instead of fat, while in another thread Bobbi said it was okay since we have enough glycogen stored in our muscles for an hour's worth of cardio. Personally, I'll do this with necessary caution if I have some flab to lose, like this time, but now that I've lost most of it, I'm back to doing my cardio in the afternoon. I think that having my last meal at 7 or 8 p.m. with only lean meat and vegetables (no rice, pasta, bread, potatoes or any starchy carbs; no fruit either) helped as well.

Well, today will probably be KPC for me. No weighted gloves. Just a simple, low impact, high intensity whole body workout. Have a great weekend, y'all!

Thank goodness it's Friday!

As if I didn't feel crappy enough last night after pigging out on hors d'oeuvres, red wine, and regular coke, I wound up having a small bowl of Haagen Dasz too. Needless to say, today's workout was most welcome!

Today did Pyramid Lower Body and was very stoked that I did all the sets and reps with the same weight that Cathe had. I also am paying more attention to my form when doing lunges, not going down as far, but really focusing on contracting the glute. I really felt them today and am pretty sure I'll be sore tomorrow. And that presents a problem for tomorrow as I have Mindy's Extreme Intervals (in place of IMAX 2) and that works the legs quite hard in the first set of intervals.

The ball work is still a work in progress. I'm finding that the exercises place a lot of stress on my shins and that pretty quickly into that phase of the workout they are TOTALLY burning. I think I'm doing something wrong. My shins hurt so bad that I have a hard time even lifting my hips let alone doing the exercises. Any suggestions?

I'll be around this weekend and will probably post a weekend edition of the check in if anyone wants to stop by.

Since I live in CA I've never had to deal with school or work being cancelled due to really bad weather. My hats of to Brenda, Shywolf, and Pinky (Tracy, are you getting blasted too?) for weathering the storm! Hopefully things will thaw out a bit and return more to normal next week.

On one exciting note, I preordered Christi Taylor's Humble Beginnings and Fantastic Four DVD's last night. Delivery is scheduled for some time in February so I'm excited. Anyone preordering any of the new CIA workouts?

Have a good weekend all.

Greetings Everyone :D

Nice to 'see' you Brenda.

So is this PLB day? That was my am workout too. I did do the whole pyramid this time YIKE. I cannot keep up the speed with the leg presses so I just hit the back button so cathe 'catches up' to me LOL! The hamstring work gets my shins too. I have pretty strong shins from my years as a speed walker. I don't have any solution for this. When they were hurtin' I tried slightly different foot positioning but nothing seemed to help. The bottom leg shin hurts on the outer thigh lifts on the ball too.

Pinky, you bring up a good point about the clean eating thing. Even if you really enjoy the healthy foods and don't crave the junk, it is so hard to have all the food available when you need it. I spend such a huge amount of time packing my 'lunch' for work (two snacks and one lunch and on long days a breakfast too) And the water thing. Brenda you say you always need to drink more water but sometimes it just isn't practical. I mean just how many times can you go to the bathroom? When I went to London last Oct, I actually cut way back on my water drinking because of the lack of available bathrooms.

So what about a Feb rotation? I didn't look today, I really can't keep up with Cathe's rotations. Jillybean has a lot of rotations that look effective, but I can't keep up with them either. Can anybody here do Legs & Glutes extreme???? (dvd premix, that I believe may go through everything twice - it is 79 minutes long)

I'm sure I'm forgetting something...
Hey to everyone!! If I don't talke to you before then, see you on Monday, cuz TGIF!!!

Hey all! One more PLBer here. I started out with Imax 2 intervals 6-10, then I did PLB up only. Joy and Sabine it's funny that you both mentioned that you feel those hamstring lifts in your shins - I have always felt it so much in my calves - and I also think that I must be doing something wrong. I went a little bit lower in my weights on PLB this time, because I am coming to the conclusion that I must be one of those types that bulk up with heavy leg work.
Pinky - you really are amazing to have lost 1 inch in such a short time - I can work and work until the cows come home, but my waist does not budge (it is totally genetic - I come from a line of tall, big bellied women)!

Well, I hope everyone has a good weekend. My husband has been out of town all week and finally comes home tonight - I have had my hands full with the kids (especially the "hobbler" as we have come to affectionately call my daughter with the cast).

Is anyone planning to pre-order the new Cathe DVD's? I am undecided - I feel like I've barely used my BB and they are still new to me - however, I am so tempted by the advanced "boot camp style" one - I think BC is my all time fav (Pinky you have to try it!)

Take care everyone else -Shywolf, LoriHart, LoriSax and Stacy

Hi Tracy,
I dropped in to answer your question about pre-ordering. I'm undecided too. My biggest problem is the advanced workout being done on the high step, with the cardio portions on 6". This means the cardio won't be full size step if I undertand correctly. This makes me sad:-( I'm sure it can be intense, but.... Also I'm not sure about beginner workouts for me. I think they might be good, but I might be bored too quickly. I also feel like I have barely used BB. For example, I don't think I've done PP and SS more than one time each from the dvd - I haven't even had a chance to discover if the DVD might have a problem like others mentioned. I find I'm still working on the intensity series.

I'd sure like to hear what the rest of you think...

It's me again - I just thought I might add that I too am disappointed that the new workout uses the high step - I wasn't really planning on getting another piece of equipment. I know several people have posted the question to Cathe as to whether or not the workout will be adaptable to a regular step - I hope she answers this, and I hope the answer is "yes". The more I have thought about it, the more I think I might wait until this one is released so that I can get input from others - the presale price is only $5 off the regular price.
Still.....I do love Boot Camp.

Tracy

Hi Tracy,
Me again. Last time til Monday, promise. I have the high step. I like it very much. I think my reluctance is just prejudice. It seems like going backwards - like the firm, and for some reason, I am turned off by that association. Also, I'm one of those people who doesn't do well with change. BUT I have never been disapointed with a pre-order. And there are only a few cathe workouts I don't do. so..what to do...
-joy

I wish Cathe would have posted a bit more information before starting the presale. I would love to know a little about how the choreography for the beg/int. step will differ from her usual step workouts. I'd love to know what exercises would be included in the weight segments. What exactly is a high step cardio workout? What about premixes? I feel like I know so little that it's hard to want to commit to a presale right now (besides, I have enough travel mugs right now).

I'm hoping these questions get answered before the posted presale price goes up a notch or goes away all together. That will help me make up my mind. I'll probably wind up getting them just because there are those times when I need lower intensity (I wish these would be available in February when I am recovering from oral surgery). Plus, I feel like presales are such bargains. If I hate the stuff, I can always swap or sell on another site.

okay, I lied, its me again.

Yep Sabine I agree completely. I'll probably cave in...
now I'm off for the weekend...promise.

As far as preordering the newest workouts I think I'm gonna pass because I also feel the BB series is still new to me. Plus with all those premixes and all her other videos that I own; I plan on doing some that are still virgins LOL and focus on them all.
I will probably wait until they come out and hear the reviews . By then I should be ready for them :)

Hi everyone, dropping in to chat before my boys come home and my busy weekend starts.

Tracy, thanks for the compliment. I've always had a small waist, thanks to my late maternal grandmother. So it doesn't take me long to whittle it away, even after pregnancy. However, I have a wide hips and a big butt -- again, thanks to my maternal grandmother. (Why is it that as I type this I feel her frowning at me from the spirit world? Scary... :)) What can I say? Genes are like shots in the dark. You get good and bad ones...:) I hope your daughter is feeling better even though she still has her cast on.

I'm also one of those who has second thoughts about pre-ordering these new workouts. First of all, one (or two?) of them is geared towards beginners and intermediate exercisers. I don't mean to be a workout snob here, but I have gotten used to the kick-butt intensity of Cathe's workouts traditionally geared to advanced exercisers. It would feel like going down one level. Although with my complaining knees, it MIGHT NOT be a bad idea to get the workouts, but I'll wait until the reviews and clips are up. Second of all, like you all say, we have lots to keep us busy. I use only half the BB series -- SB, KPC and L&G. So far I've used only the step premix of SJP. Although I could use the weight segments, I have this aversion for hi/lo. As far as the SS/PP DVD, I still don't know what to do with them. I'm just waiting for a time when I'll get tired of my favorite workouts so I can work them into my rotations. In the Intensity series, I hardly use ME and have never used BC. I'll just take a wait-and-see attitude on this coming series. My main goal is still strength so I always go back to PS, the Pyramids and S&H.

Yeah, what's next month's check-in/thread gonna be?:)
