I just saw a post and it mentioned Fitday.com as a good resource. I was wondering, though, is it really FREE? I only have internet access at work and don't want to get involved in something that could get me in trouble, like an unexplained bill in the mail. :( So, is anybody a member? Is it really free? And, is it helpful?

Thanks. Marcia :)

Hi Mrs. Schultz:

I kmow what you are saying. I went to that web site too and since you have to register and everything, I thought the same thing. I would like to know the answer too, if the web site is free. Also, I dont want it to generate a lot of spam because I get email at work too.

It looks like it's really free, at least to a certain point. Remember, if you're not entering a credit card number or postal address, they can't effectively bill you or charge you a fee for anything. However, it looks like if you sign up, you'll probably get spam. Read their privacy policy -- it says they may sell your e-mail address to advertisers, and I didn't see any info on how to opt-out of it.

RE: I am a member

and yep, it's FREE!!! You don't get any mail from them either. At least I don't. Not once. I love love love that site!! Highly reccomended!!

Hi Marcia, I just recently joined Fitday.com, so I'm definately not an expert, but I love how it keeps you conscious of your carbs and protein intake.

I just have a question for the others who use it though,.... How do you adjust the calories burned using Cathe videos in the Circuit training and weightlifting section? When I type in an hour of Circuit training and weightlifting...to me it doesn't seem to be enough calories burned. Do they allow for Cathe type workouts?

I love the site though.
Wanda

Just up the amount of time spent until it reflects the intensity of Cathe's workouts. It might take plugging in two hours to get you up to 400 or so calories but the calorie expenditure is the important number so even if it only took an hour using Cathe's workouts, it's fine.

Do you really think the calorie burn is acurate? I put in my "daily living style" and it told me I burned 2200 calories at 5'1" 120 lbs. I thought I burned about 1500. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi Spunky,

I found Fitday's calorie calculator pretty accurate, it'll get you in the ballpark. If you find the number is way off, one reason might be that you have slowed your metabolism by consuming too few calories. Long periods without food will also affect your metabolism (like someone who routinely skips breakfast).

A female burns 10 cal/day per # for involuntary activities (basal metabolism). So you're at 1200 to start. Then add in the movement part: exercise & daily activities. That's tougher to pinpoint, but 300 calories would suggest a very sedentary lifestyle. Not likely if you're posting here.

Hope this helps.
Debra

Hi, Spunky, I think it is high also since I may burn 2000 or more calories in a day but my exercise calorie expenditure is included in that amount not in addition to my lifestyle. I input myself as sedentary and the numbers look fine that way. I am lanky and not very naturally muscular although I work hard at trying to be:). The calculators don't take things like that into account. You can play with it so the numbers jive.
