I saw you were online and wondered how your boxer girl is doing? I read over at VF about her illness :( I pray she is having good days.

My boxer boy sends lots of slobbery kisses and kidney beans your way:D

Give her big hugs and kisses from both of us :)

Thank you so much for thinking of us! :)
Please give your boxer boy a hug for me.

Mercedes has been doing much better this week. She was very ill Thanksgiving week. I was so sad because I really thought I was going to lose her.:(

She sleeps a lot, but she seems more engaged when she is awake so we are thankful for that. She has been making demands for extra treats...stomping her front feet and talking to mama about her needs(Mercedes is my talker). I give her what she wants. :D

I wasn't sure if I should post what is going on with her, but for those who are wondering.
Mercedes was diagnosed with Cushing's disease in September. We hoped it was the most common form that could be managed with medication. After 2 months of treatment we realized something was not right. Her clinical signs were subsiding (excessive drinking, frequent urination) but her behavior was changing. She seemed confused at times and her senses seemed rather dull. Almost like she was in haze. She didn't want to be around her family. We noticed her flinching when we touched her, and would hide under tables or leave the room we were in.
We had hoped it was a side effect to the medication, but sadly, that was not the case.

We took Mercedes back for a CT scan and they found a very large brain tumor. They also rechecked her spleen and determined she has cancer. They found the mass late September while performing an ultra sound on her liver(Mercedes' liver enzymes were very high). The second ultra sound revealed the mass had doubled in size from Sept- Nov. The specialist determined her condition is terminal. :( We could try radiation for the brain tumor, but it wouldn't extend her life more than 3 months.

Here is a picture of my girl. She is the most precious gift from God and I am thankful for every day I have with her. :D

Oh my gosh what a sweetheart she is! :D I LOVE this picture :D

Cynthia thanks for sharing, whenever I see you post I always wonder how your sweet baby girl is doing.

(((( Cynthia )))) I am so sorry for what you and your pooch are going thru! That is about the saddest thing I've read in a long time! You are a fantastic pet owner! You give that sweet girl all the extra treats she wants!

{{{Cynthia}}} I'm so sorry. Your post is making me all wishy washy teary eyed this morning. Poor Mercedes. What a cute Grinch Santa doggie. Look at that smile. Give her an extra hug or three a day for me, too.

Gotta go find a kleenex. I don't do so well with sad doggy stories :(

Nan

Cynthia! I am sooo sorry. Mercedes is just beautiful. What a friendly face, . . . who wouldn't love a face like that. Sending you hugs.

Thank you all for the warm and thoughtful messages. It means more than you know.

I'm struggling horribly with all my emotions right now. There are days I feel like I can't cope with the pain. I'm scared I won't make the best decisions for my girl. My heart is carrying such a heavy load.
This may be hard for some to understand, but the pain I'm feeling is equal to the loss of my mother. The only thing I keep reminding myself is that when Mercedes needs to move into her next life, my mother will be there to care for her. :)

Thank you all so much! (((hugs)))

Oh Cynthia I'm so very sorry about Mercedes! :( I can understand how painful this has been for you. I have always enjoyed the stories and pictures that you have shared of your boxer babies. It was actually those stories and pics that convinced DH and I that we would like to have a boxer someday. I pray that she is comfortable during the precious time you have left with her. She's so precious and sweet..you just can't help but spoil her to pieces! Many {{{HUGS}}}!!!

Cynthia,

Just sending more ((((hugs)))) for you and Mercedes. :(

I have no doubt that Mercedes knows you will do what's best for her whenever the time comes. I'm sure your mom will love receiving Mercedes' wet kisses when her time w/ you comes to a close.

Take care~
