Firm Box

I've been thinking of ordering the new Firm. It sounds like the workouts are good but how stable is the firm box? Anyone have it or know anything? Thanks.

Marie,
I've used the Firm box and its very stable. However if you're going to do more Cathe workouts you may want to invest in the mini-step which has several risers you can adjust which I found more helpful. I actually gave my Firm step and most tapes to my sister after I purchased the mini-step. Hope this helps...

A second to that! Cathe's mini step is much more versatile and if you already have some risers, you have to spend minimal money! Plus, you will have it for Cathe workouts as well. Look on Cathe's home page for the link. You can buy just the top, just the risers, or both. There are cheaper places to get the risers, you may want to post here asking where. I want to say www.fitness1st.com, but I really can't remember. Good Luck!

Hi Marie, It looks like everyone is giving you alternatives to the Fanny Lifter and not the Box. I have the new Firm Box and I'm not impressed with it. If you workout on carpet, it slides over all the place in the incline position. I did put a sticky mat under mine yesterday and it worked much better, but I'm still not comfortable with it. It is kind of scary in the 14" position as the legs don't look very stable. A lot of people have also had trouble with it tipping over in the 6" position if you step too close to the edge. I have not had that problem. The workouts are okay. Lisa's new cardio workout really does get the heart rate up, but is still rather boring. There are new moves in the workouts that are new to the Firm, but not if you've been doing Cathe, Christi Taylor, etc. I did not like Christa's workout. Her cueing seemed a little off to me and the cardio segments were very boring. Stephanie's workout is actually pretty good, but I like Stephanie anyway. Overall I didn't care much for the new series and I'm thinking of putting my set on ebay.

Thanks for all the replies. I have Cathe's high step and a long step but just not sure if I can modify the long step (risers on one side) for the workout. Also wondering if they will eventually sell just the DVDs without the equipment? Hope so but am not very patient waiting. Not that I don't have plenty of other workouts in the meantime.

I don't have BSS3 (I'm waiting until the DVD's are available without the box, which is what happenened with BSS1 and the Fanny Lifter and BSS2 and the stick), but I've read quite a few comments at www.videofitness.com about how unstable and downright dangerous the new "Box" can be (one user broke her arm when the box tipped while she was stepping on it).

One alternative for the box might be the "Ramp," which I think you can get at QVC for around $40 (and QVC has a great return policy if you don't like it).

Even a regular step with two risers at one end sounds more stable than the "Box," but I wouldn't trust it.

Someone posted that they read about another person using a Bosu instead and it worked well, so if you have one, you could use that.

Thanks all. I am convinced to wait until the DVDs are sold alone and spend my money on the KPC/LG DVD instead. I'm sure with all the stuff I already have, there is a way to modify these without the Firm Box. Hubbie will be sooooooo happy not to see another piece of equipment.

Hi Marie, I should have mentioned this in my earlier post. I did Lisa Kay's workout using my club step and it worked great. For the incline I put 5 risers under one end and no risers under the other end. It did not budge and worked fine. I did not get as high on the incline as with the Firm box as the club step is much longer, but it did work.

Thanks. Good to know that this works. I have a smaller step and Cathe's high step. Since I have the risers, thought I would buy the larger platform and get rid of my smaller step. Someone sent me a link to a site that has the club size platform for only $35!

If you are talking about the body system 1 stepper it is a great buy!!! However, If you are talking about the body system 3 box, I would not buy the box yet. From what I have heard about the firm box 3 they are have major design problems. I heard one of the firm gals broke an arm using the box. So I would hold off....... Hope this helps.
