Finding small clothing sizes

Petite Sophisticate

If you need business wear, I suggest Petite Sophisticate -- I wear the Petite Petite size in most things -- or a size 2.

Kasper makes nice business wear, but even a size 2 is too large for me now.....they cut larger than most manufacturers.

It is a real problem when a woman is very petite and nothing begins to fit her -- I am 5'1" and have to shop in larger cities for appropriate clothing.

I did buy one skirt in a girl's size 12 and a top in a 10 -- but for the most part, I don't buy children's clothing.

Thank you!

Thanks to you all for your helpful suggestions!

I have one to add for those who are in the same boat: After surfing the web, I found a great pair of dress pants at Old Navy! They came from the women's department, but are actually cut smaller than their size. They're made from a stretch fabric that hangs wonderfully (PAST my ankles, too:)), so I won't have to wear pieces from my children's collection to work on Monday! (Though I might miss the flashy colors.)

Take care and have fun working out; the Pure Strength series is calling me. And again, thank you!!!

I can hear you! I am 5'1 size 0-2, depending on a brand. I found the most success at junior and petite sections of Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. Both stores are on a high side of the prices but they have phenomenal seasonal sales and clearances. I do find once in a while some nice things in a size 0 at Ann Taylor, but the sizing of their clothes doesn’t seem to be very consistent and the selection is very limited.

Happy shopping!

Hi!
Until recently, I always was super-tiny, at 5'1 and 96 pounds; I wore a size 0-2 petite, and managed to acquire a beautiful wardrobe at various outlets, such as Ellen Tracy, which makes gorgeous size 0 clothes, and Loehmann's, which carries small, petite sizes also. Talbot's is one of my favorites, but the smallest size is a 2P. Bloomingdale's and Lord & Taylor have excellent petite departments, and you might want to take a look at INC clothes. Macy's sells INC also.

Now that I have gained a few pounds, I am wearing a size 2-4P, and have a whole closet full of beautiful, like-new size 0's that I cannot wear anymore. I've been trying to get back down, but it doesn't look like it is going to happen. ;(

RE: Finding small clothing sizes--Reply to Abbe

Abbe--

Thank you for your suggestions, but sorry to read how disheartened you feel right now. I know it may seem difficult, but try to stay positive. I certainly wasn't always this size and before making the commitment to exercise and good eating I too felt I would never be this size, either. However, eating five (or sometimes six) small meals a day, exercising daily and keeping--or trying to keep--a good attitude about my body ultimately paid off.

The important thing is not about defining body image with a number--like one set clothing size (especially since the sizes vary so radically by designer/company!) or one weight on the scale. Being strong, having a good BMI and body fat percentage and most of all a healthy body & mind define your true fitness. Recently, I too experienced a set-back in attitude, b/c the bathroom scale declared that I weighed a bit more. Once I calmed down enough to notice that my clothes fit the same--if not better--I realized that my muscles have been developing and strengthening and so, of course, I weigh more. My body fat percentage is down (woo-hoo!) as is my BMI, by 4-5 points. And so, that dang bathroom scale has been banished to mere monthly checks (or maybe even bi-monthly). Keep on working out with Cathe and you'll reach your goals before you know it! :)

Take care and take heart. And, again, thank you for your helpfulness; know you can come here for support not only from me, but from all of the wonderful people who take part in this forum.
