What's your favorite Core Max segment? Please vote in the poll and then post why it's your favorite in the thread.

I need help deciding which one to do with my workout today. :) (I only have the FitTV versions right now, so no premix options.)

Thanks,
April

I voted no equipment. I always seem to like doing bodyweight exercises. I also find this one the most challenging of the three and I like doing the levitation holds.

#2 just seems like a lot of fun to me. Besides, you get pikes on the ball. What could be better?

I voted for segment 3 (stability ball and medicine ball). I love the intensity you get from the added weight, but I use an 8 pound toning ball instead of a medicine ball. It's slightly smaller in size but works very well. I think in the end it's really a matter of preference and which segment YOU enjoy most. :)

Thanks for the responses so far; keep 'em coming.

I haven't done any of them yet, so I kinda wanted to know what others enjoy. I know I have a favorite Stretch Max (#3 with the band!) and will probably find my favorite Core Max, but thought it'd be fun to hear what others like to help me choose the first one I try. :)

I don't have a medicine ball. Can I sub a dumbbell for most/all of the exercises in segment 3?

Thanks,
April

I asked this on another thread, but perhaps people are viewing this one more..... I'm thinking about acquiring core max, but I have no stability ball, so I'm not sure it's worth it. What do you think about doing core max without the stability ball, or skipping those segments -- is it worth buying the dvd?

thanks,

Beth, I have two things to say:

1.) Yes, Coremax is worth getting even without the stability ball, but you may have issues with Coremax segment 2 because she uses it so much. But you can always modify, modify, modify!

2.)GET THEE A STABILITY BALL! :) It's one purchase you will NOT regret!

Allison, thanks for your answer. I think I'll order core max! On the stability ball issue, I may get one eventually.... whenever I think about getting one, all I can picture is my crazy wild 6 and 8 year old boys throwing that thing around in the family room. It's bad enough I have the weights all over -- I just don't want to add the big ball to that picture. I'll probably break down eventually....

thanks!

Looks like I'll be trying out segment 3 first. I'll report back on how I like it. Thanks for the help deciding!! It's a dead heat for the next one to try. :)

So I did segment 3. I liked it overall until the last exercises. Oblique crunches w/med ball on shoulder and the long/short range crunches on the ball. I'm not sure I did those right. Have to practice that more.

I did use an 8 lb dumbbell and it worked nicely as a substitute. My 8 lbers are neoprene covered, so that might be different than trying to use a regular hex dumbbell.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Beth!

Chiming in to tell Beth -- get yourself a stability ball, honey, and just hide it in your closet when you're not using it. :) It's become one of my absolute favorite things.

I bought my first stability ball when my boys (now 18 and almost 21!) were in middle school (translation: they were still quite capable of treating everything in the house as a throw-able sports 'tool' ;-)), and for a long time I kept it either in the closet in my exercise space (which is in my attic) or in a back-of-the-room corner behind my treadmill, with my yoga/stretch mat draped over it. My boys often invaded my workout space to spread out with friends for sleeping-bag sleepovers, and it was a long time before they noticed that tempting big blue ball. :)

I like all the Core Maxes, but my hands-down fave is Segment Three, and my all-time favorite abs move is on that segment: the lying-on-the-ball side woodchop for your obliques using a medicine ball. I could do that all DAY, it feels so good!!! :)

RE: Beth!

Hi Kathy, thanks for your comments. I cannot believe your boys did not discover the big round object! I'm sure my boys will, but they are frequently in the room where I exercise since it's our family room! But, it does seem like something I ought to add in to the mix, especially with sts coming, so I will probably get one soon.

I would say be careful doing one part of segment 3 with a regular hex weight. I did that for years, until recently. There is 1 move where you hold the weight between your knees while doing reverse crunches and rocket shoots. The weight slipped out and bruised my chest and collarbone. That's the only move where I would advise caution though.
