Fat loss July

Hi ladies! I had a super busy day Wednesday so didn't get to plyo legs until last night. Wow, that was harder than I remember, I had to insert a few pauses. The good news is I'm getting better on the sit-n-stands, they used to kill me! I need to add these workouts in even when I'm not doing STS, they're great and short (45 minutes) as long as I don't take extra breaks. Today will be bis/tris. I've been trying to wrap my head around what macros I should be eating (and when). I've upped my calories for the past couple of days (yay!), so I expect Aug. 1st to be a not-so-great weight in, measurement. If I can do better workouts, build muscle and eventually lose fat it'll be worth it.

Diana you know women's weight fluctuates during the month so that .4 is probably just a blip. Celebrate the successes, don't sweat the small bumps in the road. Are you open-water swimming this weekend? If so have a great, powerful swim!!!

Tina I don't know how you get out there in this heat - it's oppressive! I'd love to be doing walk/runs but I can't take the heat & I hate running on the treadmill. Have a great weekend, chat at you on Monday :)

I hope you both had a great weekend! I'm so excited that we're back to comfortable weather! We were able to get a great 50+ bike ride in on Sunday. We finally dragged our kayak's out of the basement for the first time this season and did a moonlight paddle in the evening. Today was STS M3D28, SB abs, and stretch. My neighbor is trying to do more training on her bike, so I joined her for a chatty afternoon ride today. It's nice to sit back and enjoy the ride sometimes. : )

Tomorrow morning were planning a power hike. We need to be back before noon for both kids to get to work on time, so it will be a power climb. An hour ride, a four mile hike, and an hour home. Should be interesting...

Sue, I had major DOMS from plyo legs and can still feel my triceps from Friday's workout. I haven't had the ferocious appetite kick in yet, but I know it's coming. How is your new eating plan going?

Diana, when is the next race? I hope your open water training is going well. My sister, who's a trainer, was asked by a co-worker to do a Tri, and she declined because of the swim portion. The fear of the water must run in the family. How's the WW plan going?

I'll let you know how our marathon drive/hike goes. : )

Hi Ladies,

Saturday was a wonderful 15 mile solo bike ride. I ride a lot harder and faster when I ride alone! I love doing the more leisurely rides with my training partner. Sunday was open water swimming. I rented a wetsuit this time but the water was really choppy and wavy...the kind where you turn your head to take a breath and the waves hit right in the face. I didn't enjoy it at all. I ended up swimming mostly along the shoreline because I couldn't deal with the choppiness as you got further away from shore.

Yesterday morning was swimming (pool):) and last night was boot camp class. I should probably start doing some running....other than boot camp class. The temps are just too high for me....it didn't use to bother me when I was younger.

There are weekly Stroke & Stride events (half or full mile swim, and a 5k)that I may participate in this week. The swim is in open water....GGGRRR. It would be a nice training run for the tri. Trying to see the positive in doing this. The tri is in 3 weeks which is good. I'm tiring of swim/bike/run and would like to get back to Cathe and Shaun T.:p

Sue-I love all the plyo leg w/o's, they are awesome!! How's your new eating program going? I have an ebook from Tom Venuto that is full of nutrition and training information. It's called Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle. You might want to check it out.

Tina-Nice to hear that you enjoyleisurely rides now and then and aren't always pushing yourself! Hope you are having a great hike today! It would be nice if my DH would do things with me, he doesn't exercise and probably never will. The pool swimming is fine...I'm not a great swimming but the pool doesn't bother me.

It's leg day for me, I've been doing CLB but think I throw in one of the STS Plyo Legs and that will leave me time for ab work too!:)

Have a great day ladies!

Hi ladies! I did supercuts on Saturday, then took Sunday & Monday off. Today was M3 D28, chest & back, push/pull. A nice workout, I can probably go up in weight in the presses & rows but not dead lifts & flys. I've been eating well, it's hard to get in the macros I'm supposed to be using. The other day I had some roast beef slices for breakfast to try and get more protein in.

Hi Tina, how was your hike? Did your timing work out? My DOMS last week were light, nothing major here. That was surprising because plyo legs was so challenging.

Diana bummer on the choppy water! Good luck on your events this week, you'll rock that tri with all the training you've been doing :). When you get back to vids are you planning on a rotation or ad-hoc? I looked on iBooks and the book you recommended is on preorder, how do you have it already? I downloaded a sample of his other book, the body fat solution.

Have a good Wednesday ladies :)

Hi Ladies! Well, our hike was washed out by flash flood warnings. We'll try again next week. I ended up doing a kickboxing workout. Today was STS plyo legs and the bonus leg portion from M1D3. I'm going to try for a short ride tonight.

I caught a portion of the Diane Rehm show yesterday. The discussion was on sugar. I'm going to go back and upload it when it becomes available. From what I heard, I was riveted. The segment is called: Richard Cohen "Sugar Love: A Not So Sweet Story". This may explain why I can't seem to lose an ounce, even with doubling up workouts.

Sue, I can't believe we are almost done with this STS round. I'm already feeling the need to plan an upcoming rotation. DD just tried Supercuts for the first time today, and she loved it. She plans on trying LIH tomorrow.

Diane, I'm not able to tolerate the heat as well as I used to either. We're about the same age, so there must be some connection to midlife. I'm getting excited for fall. : )

Managed a quick bike ride last night. Woke up this morning totally exhausted, so I took the day off, not even an evening walk. Hopefully I'll feel back to normal tomorrow.

I went and listened to the Podcast on sugars. It was interesting, but sort of vague. I'm going to do some digging for more information (as I sit here eating an ice pop). I'm sure this is my diet culprit, I just have to figure an alternative replacement.

I hope you're both doing well. : )

Hi ladies! I've got myself behind on workouts again, did Wednesday's plyo legs today. I had to insert many breaks & was huffing and puffing. But I did it :). They seem so much harder this time around for some reason. Depending on how I feel tomorrow I'll go straight to sh/bis/tris or maybe try to follow along on the ustream workouts. Did you ladies check out the first class tonight? Looked like fun :)

Tina I'll be interested in the sugar info. unfortunately I haven't found a substitute I like so it's either eat sugar or abstain. and I'm not a very good abstainer! If you're waking up exhausted you either slept poorly or you're not getting enough nutrition. did your day get any better today?

Diana how has this week been for you? My new eating plan is going okay, it will be a while before I see progress though. I need to get an official body fat analysis in something called a bod pod. There's one facility that does it in my area but they're by appt only during the day so I need to figure out a morning to take off work and get it done. it'll be interesting to see how far off my bathroom scale is for body fat %.

Hi Ladies,

It's been a long and busy week. I thought I was going to have to work today but my boss emailed and said not to. :D

My training partner and I ended up doing the Stroke & Stride event relay style. Although I reserved a wetsuit for that night, they didn't have it when I went to pick it up. My training partner also has a hip injury and shouldn't be running. She did the swim and I did the run. She actually texted me to let me know we came in second in the relay!!!

The tri is in two weeks! I'm also registered to do a HM in October and training for that overlaps with my tri training. I follow Hal Higdon's Novice or Intermediate programs. Since I haven't been running I'll probably follow the novice program.

I was up .8 at my weigh in this week. We did go out for Thai food the night before. My MIL called and wanted us to meet her at her favorite Thai place so it was totally unplanned. I'm up a 1.2 lbs for the last 2 weeks so I'm due for a few weeks of losses going forward! Overall I'm still doing pretty good with the plan.

Sue-Good luck with your new eating program. I've had Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle for years. It's just difficult for me to be that strict. Even Weight Watchers can be difficult at times. JMO, it's still okay to use your scale, you just want to see the BF% going down...it's just another gauge with which to measure. I have the hand held BF scale. I prefer to follow a rotation, it's just easier than trying to play it by ear. I'll be doing weights...probably Xtrain/GS during the HM training.

Tina-Sorry about the hike being flooded out. It sounds like you aren't sleeping well. I seem to have that issue sometimes too. I could definitely work on limiting sugar, but there is no way I could eliminate it completely. I tend to binge if I eliminate a certain food.

Today was a gorgeous 60 mile ride. We tacked on an extra 10 due to more iffy weather for tomorrow. We'll still go out if it's only drizzle. I'm still feeling my triceps from Friday's STS workout. That rest day on Thursday has done wonders from my energy level! : )

Diana, you're amazing! A HM so soon after a tri. The HM sounds easier to me, not that I could even run a 5k. Congrats on coming in 2nd in your relay!

Sue, I agree that the plyo legs this week were much harder. I had DOMS before the end of that day. I'm enjoying the live classes. I'd be so star struck to be in the same room as Cathe, I'd make a total fool of myself.

Ironically, in Bicycling magazine this month, they have an article on sugar and how we're all eating way too much of it. DH went to the bike shop today to find a better hydrating drink and came home with a product call Skratch. It has way less sugar and a little less sodium than Gatorade (and a WAY bigger price tag). We always carry two bottles, so we'll make one Skratch and the other Gatorade to off set the cost. In the fall, when it gets colder, we go back to one bottle of just water. I'm going back to eating plain greek yogurt this week. I wasn't aware of how much sugar was in my favorite Oikos raspberry cup. : O

No workout for me yesterday, disk 30 today (sh/bis/tris). I think I should just embrace an every other day workout schedule until I get my mojo back. I tried to tune into more road trip classes yesterday but the video quality was lame and it kept crashing my iPad. I did catch a bit of the boot camp class - that looked like a lot of fun!

Diana congrats on your 2nd place result! You and your partner should be so proud of yourselves! Nice division of labor too :) I'll have to check out that novice running program. I've tried various walk to run programs and can't seem to get to the 100% running part. I do 10-20 min running then go back to walking. And when I say running I really mean jogging :)

Tina check this out for homemade electrolyte drink: http://annapolis-nutrition-fitness.com/michaels-blog/220-homemade-electrolyte-drinks

I haven't tried it myself but it could be a way to save a buck? I had been eating the plain Greek yogurt and adding my own fruit. I really don't enjoy the taste of plain yogurt so the lovely cathlete fox2star suggested adding a little vanilla protein powder & stirring really well. It did the trick! The yogurt is palatable and there's not too much sugar in it :)

Have a great Monday y'all :)

Let see, Sunday was a wet ride that we ended up getting lost on, Monday was STS M3D31 and BF 360, and today two short bike rides.

Sue, I can't believe we're on the last STS case. This round went by so fast! Thanks for posting the recipe for electrolyte drinks. I made my own granola and have been using it in the plain yogurt this week with a sliced apple. There's sugar, but not as much as I was consuming. It's such a struggle to know what to eat anymore. : / How is your new eating plan going?

Hi to Diana. : )

Today was M3 D31, chest/back. I really liked the push/pull sequence. You're right Tina, these workouts are speeding by. I'm thinking next maybe I'll do the strength only xtrain rotation. Good job switching up your yogurt, I bet that homemade granola is scrumptious :). Hi Diana! I hope your training is going well :)
