Fat loss July

Starting a new thread for the month. I weighed in this morning and was up .2 lbs, I'm calling that statistically insignificant. All my other measurements were the same as last month. I had my calorie settings at maintenance, bumped it to .5 lb loss per week for July so I should lose 2 pounds this month. I'll be happy with any waist reduction regardless of what the scale might show.

I have serious lower body some so only did a walk today, I'll be starting the last week of Meso 2 tomorrow.

Tina I'm so sorry about your family member. I hope you have time to spend making an extra memory or two.

Hi Diana & everyone else :)

Good morning ladies! Thanks for starting a new thread Sue. : ) Monday was M2D22 and Bodyfit 360 and yesterday was kickboxing for an hour. This morning I have planned M2D23 legs. I'm not adding anything else (maybe abs) as we have a big ride planned tomorrow. I may even lighten up on the weight selection today. The downside to DH's new bike is that he's even faster now. : /

Sue, nice job maintaining your weight loss. I am hovering in the status quo position. My digital scale has not budged up or down in over two months. As long as it isn't going up, I'm happy with it for now.

Diana, how's the tri training going?

Hi Ladies,

Well I made it to my 1st bootcamp class on Monday night. My legs are so sore! Last night was my last night of swim class. I'm going to miss that class and may take it again.

I weighed myself at home this morning and think my WW weigh in will be about the same as last week maybe a tad bit less.

One of you asked about the wetsuit. My next triathlon is in open water and about 50% of the participants wore a wetsuit last year, myself included. My purpose for wearing a wetsuit is because I'm not a strong swimmer and don't have much open water experience. I hope to get more open water swim practice in. If my comfort level allows, I may try the triathlon this year without a wetsuit. I think the swimming for me will be slower without a wetsuit, but the transition faster since I won't have to peel it off.

I've done several of the T25 discs and so far so good. I'm a Shaun T. fan so will be doing these when I can.

Tina-so sorry to hear of your terminal family member. {{Hugs}} Glad you are done with school stuff now. This is the first official week of following a 6 week tri training plan. Tomorrow my training partner and I are swimming in the morning. I bought us fins, a pull buoy and a kickboard!!

Sue-Are you using MFP to track calories...sorry, I can't remember. I'm down a total of 7#'s so far but am at my "normal weight" which is over my goal weight by 20#'s. Sounds like you struggle with your waist measurement as much as I struggle with my hip/thigh measurements. Buying jeans is a nightmare for me.

Hope you have a wonderful 4th of July! We don't have any real plans....may walk to the park to watch the fireworks!

Hi ladies! I'm on my phone so I'll have to do personals tomorrow. Yesterday I did D22, another lovely workout :). Today was drill max timesaver cardio blast. I liked it a lot, just downloaded from the 40% off sale last month. Also bought butts & guts and cardio supersets. Previewed B&G and it looks scary! But I have to get serious about this gut :). Goodnight, chat at you mañana :)

Today was a steamy 50 mile ride. We bumped into some hot shots and I hung on for dear life for about 5 miles. I'm glad they pulled over for a bathroom break, I'm not cut out for 27 mph. I enjoy a healthy 19 mph, and air that I'm able to breath. I am so sore in the hips and rump, partly from STS legs yesterday. Only one more day Sue, and then cardio bliss next week. I just ordered Michelle Dozois' Peak 10 Cardio Strength Remix, off of Mary's site. She has her July 4 sale going on! : )

Another sweltering ride today and looks like another one for tomorrow. Eating continues to be higgledy-piggledy and life contiues to keep throwing curve balls. I hope you're all doing well and staying hydrated. Looking forward to the upcoming cardio week! : )

Hi ladies! I got a little behind on STS so finished up M2D23 legs yesterday and M2D24 back/biceps today. Holy cow, my fingers were cramped in bar-holding position after deadlifts and I spent most of the one minute rests trying to get them back to normal. I think this means the weight was just too heavy. I'm noticing this time around my forearms are having a hard time with the heavier weights. Might be time for me to get a weighted vest. This week I'll be doing whatever cardio floats my boat each day.

Diana do you have access to a pool to get extra swimming practice in before your tri? I'm glad you're liking your new workouts, I'm starting to look forward to the new Cathe workouts. I do use MFP to track calories although I'm not as strict as I was at the beginning of the year. I think I have tracking fatigue :) I hear you on the jeans - I hate all clothes shopping, especially trying things on in-store.

Tina I looked up the Peak 10 DVD you mentioned. The whole system looks interesting, maybe I'll consider when I get bored with what I have. I'm already thinking about when I might want to start another round of STS or if maybe I want to just do one Meso when the mood hits me.

I'm about ready to shop for a new pair of workout shoes, do you ladies have any favorites I should consider?

Ciao :)

Another big mechanical problem on my ride today. I broke a spoke about 20 miles from home. I nursed it about five miles before the tire started rubbing against the frame. I should have never sold my 'B' bike. It did give DH the chance to race his new bike as fast as he could back home so he (and the dog) could come to my rescue. It made the dog's entire day. I've been looking at a more agressive 'B' bike at the shop. I think I need it sooner than later.

Sue, funny your forearms have been fatigued too. I was thinking on Friday that this cardio break is coming at the perfect time. I was failing pretty quickly during the deadlifts. I'm planning another STS round in the fall, after I try out the new Cathe releases. Would love to do another round with you if you're up to it. I'm getting excited for the new workouts too. Are you shopping for cross trainers or running sneakers? My favorite CT's are Ryka's. They fit my foot and have great lateral support. I bought a pair of Avia's last time, and the rubber tread started to come apart about a month after I bought them, so I don't recommend that brand.

Diana, I don't enjoy jean shopping either. If I get a pair to fit my thighs right, then the waist is way too big. The only jeans that sit right on me are Banana Republic brand, and even then I have to try a dozen pair on in the same size before I find the right fit. When is your next Tri again? I hope the heat breaks before then!

Hi Ladies,

I'm sitting here on the computer procrastinating working out. My legs are fried from CLB yesterday morning and bootcamp class last night. I will at least get one UB part worked this morning!

We are in the mid to high 90's this week...and I hate this heat. Then the wind blows it's just miserable. Of course I work in an office and always need a sweater cuz it's so cold inside. Way, I'm really wining today.

I was down 2#'s last week for a total of 8.8 if I remember right. I was pretty happy with that. I think my weight is about the same as last week, I'll find out for sure when I step on the scale at my meeting tomorrow!

Tina-oh no, sorry about the spoke issue. I always carry a spare tube, co2 and tools, but have never changed a tire. At least DH was with you. I'm going to have to check out banana republic for jeans. I have a couple pairs of lucky's that fit me. I bought them at Costco so they are probably imperfect. I've tried on tons at the Lucky outlet and none of those have fit. I'm up for STS in the fall!! Meso 2 is my favorite and sometimes I just do a month of that!

Sue-My forearms got so sore during STS too. I actually purchased hooks, well they are gloves with hook in the palm for holding the bar for deadlifts. These allow you to live heavier for your legs than what your forearms may be able to handle. Cathe mentions that you shouldn't wear a weight vest for deadlifts. I believe it's in her video files for STS. I did an open water swim without a wetsuit over the weekend. It's a bit daunting for me but I did it. We plan on going again this weekend. Other than that, we swim at a neighborhood pool a couple times per week and 1 open water swim.

Procrastination over...time to lift!! Have a great day ladies!

Today I tried Michelle Dozois' newest, Cardio Strength Remix. It certainly left me in a puddle of sweat. I'll give it another go in a day or two. I liked it, but I need to get all the moves down pat before I'll feel smooth with it. I bought a new 'B' bike today, I can hardly wait to try it! Our living room is back to looking like a bike shop.

Sue, what are you planning for a workout tomorrow? Nothing seems to be perking my interest, I think I'll go watch some Cathe clips and see if anything motivates me for the a.m. How's the shoe shopping going?

Diana, congrats on the continued weight loss! I sure hope this heat wave is gone before your race.

Good morning ladies, I hope you're all doing well. I'm really starting to miss STS and can hardly wait to get started with Meso 3. The weather here has been a real Debbie Downer. We've had more rain than sun this season, and it's really messing up the cycling miles. The sun has poked its head out this morning, so I'm going to due a few small test loops with the new bike. I haven't been on it since I brought it home.

On Wednesday, I broke out High Reps. Not sure how much of a no-no this is on a rest week, but it was the only thing that really motivated me that day. I really love everything about HR, especially the leg work. Yesterday I did XT Legs, the floor and barre premix. I'm really feeling my quads this morning. : )

Miss you guys, can't wait to hear what you've been up to. : )

Hi Ladies,

I reached the 5% weight loss at my weigh in this week. So far I'm down a total of 9#'s. I've been at this weight for basically the past 8 years so I'm going to have to really buckle down to lose more. Somehow I gained about 7#'s over Thanksgiving/Christmas last year and couldn't get it off on my own. Now that's gone and I just have to keep on the program.

My training partner and I will be open water swimming tomorrow. As much as I don't like, I feel it is helping me overcome my swim anxiety for the triathlon. If it's not too hot, I may do a bike ride and short run later.

Tina-sorry about the weather messing up all your rides. We are in a heat wave and it's just unbearable at times. You'll probably be fine with HR since it's endurance based. Not sure about X train though, but I say if it motivates you to workout then its worth it.:) My biceps got the strongest with meso 3....at the end I was using 52.5#'s for barbell curls!!!

Sue-hope you had a great week!

Hi ladies, sorry I haven't checked in lately ;( My active recovery week turned into more of a passive recovery week - All I did this week was walk until today I did 30 minutes of cardio supersets. I've been depressed and have a bit of diet fatigue setting in. Of course not getting the endorphins from a great workout didn't help! I'll be happy to be back at STS on Monday. I've preplanned all my cardio workouts for this meso using mostly LIS & XTrain, I'm also planning on Buts & Guts every Saturday as long as my leg DOMS from STS aren't debilitating.

I don't know if you ladies noticed the Focus 25 thread, Shantabulous posted a link to eat to perform, I've been crusing that site and I might join their forum. It's not open, you have to buy their book ($50) and that gets you one year access. That site seems to be cross fit centered but their FAQ says their system is good for anyone to use. I'm still on the fence about it... eating more and losing fat/inches seems like a pipe dream to me. But lifting weights while restricting calories seems absurd.

Tina - Now that you have a new backup bike will you go home and swap it out and keep riding when your main bike fails? Or will you call it a day and just use the backup while your main is in the shop? I think you're okay for doing weights this week - I wish I had broken the rules and done something like that. I'm up for STS in the fall, I've been surfing the rotations forum and the STS/LIS transformation rotation looks interesting. I'm going shoe shopping tomorrow, cross trainers. Although I'd really like a pair that's good for lateral moves & running. Maybe I'll splurge & get both, but it looks like I won't be doing any running for a month or two due to the heat.

Diana I hate the heat too. I wish I lived in a part of the country that's getting lots of rain, I'd much happier :) Thanks for the heads-up on hooks, I had not heard of those before! Congrats on your weight loss - WAY TO GO!!! Good luck on your open water swim, it's great to get out of the comfort zone!

Have a great Sunday ladies :)

Finally, a beautiful weekend. We managed 100 miles over the past two days. The new bike rides nice, but I don't have a bike computer yet to know if I'm any quicker on it. The shop owner measured up my other bike and set the new one nearly identical. Sue, it depends how far into a ride we are when a bike fails. Last weekend I would have gone out again for sure. STS in the fall, on the later end, would be great. I'm hoping Cathe will have a rotation that will include the new workouts, Xtrain, and LIS for the early fall.

Diana, 52.2 for curls? That's amazing! I ran down to check my curl #'s and the heaviest I went was 47, and that was only for two rounds, then my notes have a downward arrow. I'm eager to get started this week. Congrats on your continued weight loss! : )

Sue, let us know what kind of sneakers you purchase. : )

Ask and you shall receive... it rained today & cooled down about 20 degrees, I'm a happy girl :). Another cool one tomorrow then back up to the 90s (ughhhh). I went to the Nike outlet & bought air max prospers. I'd never heard of them, but they were the most comfortable of all the shoes I tried on. I'll break them in for the next couple days then work out in them probably Thursday cardio. My workout today was cardio leg blast, cardio only premix. I've lost some endurance during my recent cardio hiatus :(

Tina nice job on the ride, I see you're toward the top of the leader board on the race across America, kudos! So happy to be starting meso 3 tomorrow!!!!!!

Hi Diana :) I hope your swim went well!

Goodnight ladies :)

Hi Ladies,

I end up not working out at all this weekend, and total blew the diet on Sunday too.:mad::mad: No one to blame but myself. I'm back on track today though. My morning workout was GS BSB and STS Total Body-Lower Body Only Premix and abs. Tonight I have bootcamp class.

The open water swim didn't happen because there was Triathlon going on at the reservoir. We are planning on going to an open water swim clinic this weekend at the reservoir where our tri is taking place.

Sue-I'm going to have to check out that thread. Another one of my fitness friends is doing some clean eating plan. I'm going to ask her what exactly it is. Sorry you are struggling with depression, have you seen a Dr.? Cross Fit encourages the Paleo Diet. If your interested it may be cheaper to buy the Paleo Diet Book. These are like the hooks I have, you can probably get them at Dick's Sporting Goods, Sports Authority or the like: Schiek Power Lifting Hooks at Bodybuilding.com: Lowest Prices for Power Lifting Hooks Nice w/o, I didn't even know CLB had a cardio only premix!

Tina-wow, 100 miles...you are amazing!! What kind of bike seat and riding shorts do you use/recommend? I tore my seat in one of accidents when learning how to use my clipless pedals. I'd like to get one with the cutout in middle. You have another 4 weeks of STS and trust me....she's going to keep increasing those weights.:p I'm totally up for a round of STS in the late fall. Count me in!

To be honest, I'm already dreading my weigh in this week. I'm going though, just to be true to myself and start the next week on a clean slate.

Today was a quick recovery bike ride (really I wanted to try out the new bike computer) followed by M3D25. Felt great to be lifting heavy and really enjoy those rest minutes in between. I think I may need some plate mates before weeks three. : )

Sue, I love Nike shoes, but have never been able to get them to fit properly. You must have lovely narrow feet. I saw a man at the grocery store today, who looked like he walked off a fitness magazine and he was wearing a Crossfit t-shirt. It made me think of you. :D

Diana, I'm using a Specialized Lithia saddle on both bikes. It does have the cut out and is the most comfortable seat I've used. I ride Cannondale, but won't ever trade out the saddles to match. I've had a really hard time finding a good bike short this year. All the brands I've tried this season, have changed to a really cheap material. I have two old pairs of Pearl Izumi Sugar Shorts that have held up, but they don't make them the same anymore. If you find a brand you like, let me know. The intensity that you workout at, it's good you took last weekend off!

I attempted to use MFP again today. The afternoon nibbling through me off again. I need to stop being so lazy and only put things in my mouth that are easy to log. One bite of blueberry coffee cake and licking the batter bowl are tough to journal....

Hi ladies :). Yesterday was M3 D25, very happy to,be back on weights. Today was my 20 minute Tabatacize mix. I signed up for the eat to perform website and have been reading a bunch over there trying to formulate my plan. looks like I'll be paying a lot more attention to macros and carbs have a timing component to them. I may experience initial weight gain so I'll have to be in a good place mentally to not let that bother me.

Diana - Tina's right, you need a weekend off every now and again. Thanks for the link to those hooks, I'll be on the lookout next time I go to the sports store. I love that cardio only premix for cardio leg blast, it's my favorite cardio in xtrain. I don't plan on seeing anyone for depression, I have an unpleasant anniversary coming up later this month that's been on my mind. once that date passes I'll be fine I'm sure.

Tina - I loved those breaks in Monday's workout too! i don't have any plans to start crossfitting. I like working out on my own too much (I don't like to sweat in public). I think the problem with MFP is we want to be precise in our logging and real life eating habits don't make that easy.

Tomorrow is plyo legs - so excited! night :)

Hi Ladies,

Well I kinda fell off the WW wagon on Sunday, gggrrr. Anyway I was up .4 at my weigh in yesterday. I'm okay with it and am back on track. There a lot of things I don't have control of, but what I decide to eat is within my control and I need to embrace that and make good decisions.

Tina-I'm not in love with any of my biking shorts. One pair is more nylon, synthetic that I love but has huge bulking padding that I don't like. Then I have 2 pairs of cotton blend with just enough padding, but like you mentioned they are super thin and cheap feeling....actually they were cheap too. I ended up tearing one of them and bought another pair cuz they were cheap. In WW, that mindless eating is called BLT's-bites/licks/tastes. I definitely know what you're talking about. Thanks for the info on the saddles.

Sue-let me know what you think of the eat to perform plan. Sending hugs and positive thoughts to help you through your "unpleasant anniversary". So sorry.

Time to get my w/o on before work! bbl

Good morning, I hope you're both doing well. : ) Yesterday was Bodyfit 360 and a short bike ride in the evening. This morning will be STS and another short ride. I can't wait for this heat wave to break!

Sue, I'm sorry to hear that this month isn't a good one for you. I hope it passes quickly. Thinking of you. <3

Rest day tomorrow. I have a crazy schedule the next three days, so I'll check in on the other side. Have a great weekend. : )
