Hi Cathe,
Can you please tell me how long it will take to start losing fat from my belly if I am doing your hour long workouts about 6 days a week? I am getting discouraged because ive been working out for two weeks and dont notice any change, help!!!

Hi Cheryl,

I'm not Cathe, obviously, but I had/have the same problem. I am seriously an apple and the last place I lose is the belly/waist area.
It's not easy...all I can say is, it took a lot of time & a lot of work, & it's still an ongoing project! (Although vastly improved.)

What I read on these forums somewhere was: clean, clean, clean diet! Hard to do, I know. Nobody's perfect (least of all me) but you have to keep it clean as much as humanly possible. Then, of course, intense workouts. (You don't say what kind of hour-long workouts you're doing?)

Cathe says to lean out, the best cardio is running. She's right...it was the only thing that worked for me. And I hate running! LOL

Any workouts (especially Cathe's!) help, of course. But if you're not touching the old belly fat, you may want to add in some running.

Just my 2 cents...hope it helps.

I think if you have any fat to lose you should have lost a lb or two by now. Esp 6 days a week! I would take a hard look at your diet. Journal what you eat and see where your calories are going. Those workouts probably make you hungry....watch out! 15 ill spent minutes on the wrong food in the kitchen can undo 60 minutes of cardio! Lots of fresh fruits and veggies. Reallllly watch the meat and potatoes. Reeealllly watch the margarine, salad dressings and other major calorie busters. Good luck!

As a weight loss veteran, let me add that the key is patience. It usually takes awhile for your body to adjust to a reduction in calories and increase in exercise. I've found that nothing happens for a few weeks - then all of a sudden the scale will drop by 5lbs and I realize my clothes are loose. It's weird - seems to happen overnight, but really it's just a long slow process.

Hope that helps.

I'm not Cathe either, but I'll offer a couple of comments:

First, it takes significantly more time than two weeks to experience significant body composition changes, both in terms of storage fat loss and muscle mass and strength development.

Secondly, as has been stated many times before, it is impossible to selectively lose fat stores from a specific area of the body. THAT the body stores fat is due to a combination of genetics and lifestyle; WHERE the body stores fat is entirely genetically determined. Fat loss will result a good, health combination of consistent cardio and strength training coupled with a sensible nutritional program that does not unduly restrict either calories or macronutrients but DOES minimize the junk.

What I'd suggest, Cheryl, is that you re-post back here with more specific information as to what you are doing each day and each week; it is possible that in addition to evaluating your nutritional intake, we could also offer some suggestions for what sorts of workouts would be optimal for body composition changes.
