Fall Clothes

I am so fashion challenged. I bought a pair of those cropped black slacks things...now I have no idea what to wear on top with them, suggestions for the fashion retarded please?

Shelly I will reply. I am buying straigh legged jeans at the Gapbecause I have none (not skinny jeans, I prefer breathing). Also a few longish fitted fine knit sweaters to wear belted over blouses/tops instead of suit jackets, or to wear over them new jeans. And two skinny black and brown belts And a pencil skirt or two in some nice plaid or other pattern to go with all my solids. Wanting to get away from all the bulkiness. Finally some long gold and pearl chains (fake likely on them pearls!) to jazz up the sweaters. Ah yes also black ankle boots to replace the ones my dogs ate.

May I suggest for the cropped pants you wear matching/similar color tights with either flats or lower heels?

See Shelly, some of us have thought this out!!! Couldn't reply sooner becasue I was out shopping!!!! P.S. Try Lord & Taylor if one near you - they have awesome selection and sales! :)

I'm really liking the wrap dresses. I'll have to check those out. I went boot shopping at lunch and found NOTHING. I'm extremely picky when it comes to boots. I'm a boot slut too, but I haven't been able to find any that I like for the past couple of years.

For whoever asked about what to wear with cropped pants, I found this:

Ann Taylor is showing great stuff. Too bad I can't get any of it:p

I've been checking out the new fall stuff, too. Leggings? I loved them in the 80's but I swear they're the reason I gained weight...that elastic waist was just too forgiving and who could see what we were hiding (and gaining!) underneath those big sweathers we wore over them!

Maybe I'll get a pair of straight leg jeans, but those tapered things just don't do many body types justice. (I've got the pictures of my friends and me from 1986 to prove it!!!)

I like what Kristi picked out at Chadwick's. Just might have to hijack those Kristi!

I really like the cropped cuffed trousers and boots, but on everyone else but me! I think I'm too short and stocky for that look. And I just can't get used to the ballet flats...sticking with boots this fall.

I love this sweater from Banana Republic, but I don't know about spending $128 on it. Might have to look for a less expensive version.

I like the idea of the wrap dress with tall boots.

I'm getting some really good ideas here girls! Thanks!

Melissa - I have a sweater exactly like that one only from Gap. So you should look around to see if you can find it.

Wrap dresses are great. Wrap anythings are great--blouses, skirts, dresses, etc. They fit pretty much everyone, & they make curve-challenged women like me look almost feminine.

Ooh I just saw this thread! I would love to talk fashion. I have some money saved up and want to buy the following:

- Some tall boots with some slouch which is in now (I am thinking of these http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2898288...Y&origin=category&searchtype=&pbo=6006721&P=1 )

- some new ballet flats in more of a metallic color (bronze or pewter) thinking of these -

- crisp, white feminine shirts are in now, which is great with pencil skirt for work, or jeans on the weekends

- long tunic

- tie cardigan

- I just bought some peep toe shoes, but I want more!

- I also want some drop earrings and gold link necklace

Holy crap, slouch boots are back? That's it, I'm not leaving the house again until next season's fashions are back.

Now, if they start acid washing the skinny jeans & putting zippers w/bows at the ankles, I'm just going out & buying 14 muumuus (that would be one for every day of 2 weeks just in case I don't feel like doing laundry one w/e).

I've continued to follow all of your shopping/fashion suggestions and have made a decision...it's just to difficult for me to make clothing choices and shop. So I'm staying home naked this fall.:p

Melody, I'm sure your DH will be thrilled:) Maybe just one pair of boots? Naked with boots works, don't ya think?}(

Shelley,

I'm certain that'll work as far as DH is concerned. But then there's the problem of how to explain this to the boys!?

ETA: Dang kids, they mess some things up don't they?

Seriously, though, the whole situation is incredibly depressing. Last weekend I stopped by my absolute FAVORITE shop in the world, which is slightly (ok, very) expensive but has fab, fab stuff. Their primary audience is WOMEN, not girls, and their stuff is generally classic or at least classically trendy. :) How horrified I was that even the mannequins in the windows were wearing TINY STRAIGHT JEANS! With a big fat belt over the top. And ugly ballet flats that might as well have been socks. Yuck!

Woo hoo yeah let's talk about fashion and I'll forget about the flu symptoms I'm experiencing today x( ...

Fall is definitely my favorite season to shop, except for the 80's fashions this year. On Monday they had awesome sales everywhere and since I had to spend on a new pair of eyeglasses I only got three new tops and left the mall wanting to buy a lot more, but I couldn't because I would've gotten way out of my budget (the eyeglasses pretty much left me broke until my next paycheck).

Ok so fall fashions... there's no way I'd be wearing leggings; there's no panty line or dimple that can be hidden by those. Skinny jeans I don't know either, but if I lose my judgement for a day and I buy them they can't have a tapered leg á la "mom jeans" I'd rather get them with a slight low rise, a straighter leg below the knee, and with a long inseam. I saw a pair of skinny jeans at Banana Republic that met all these requirements, but they were $128 (bummer). If I decide to get jeans like those I'd wear them with knee-hi boots with the jeans tucked inside (somehow that balances my shape more than wearing skinny jeans with any other kind of shoe). So that's that.

Vests are super cute, especially sweater vests with deep v-necks worn with fitted tops. Oversized tops no way... I won't be spending money on those. And let's not forget about the "in" colors. Neutrals and black are always in for fall, gray is huge, red is huge, and yes purple. I think we can somehow make what's in work for our body type instead of going for the overkill. One of the tops I bought is fitted and long with 3/4 sleeves and it's purple. I'm planning to wear it with bootcut jeans or bootcut pants with a black belt at the waist and short black boots. I already tried this at home, it looks super cute and it works for my pear shaped body. :)

I think that I will buy more tops, super dark blue bootcut jeans, knee-hi boots in black (I saw the perfect ones at Banana Republic--all leather with memory foam insoles, $198), maybe a pair of skinny jeans if they're not too expensive and work for me, a belt or two, some additional accessories, and of course seamless underwear :p . I think that will work with what I have in my closet already.
