Facebook Question

Help please...I am not a cyber-socializer, but I did join facebook because of updates from Cathe. I have never really utilized it, but something just happened that is kind of freaking me out.

Last week I googled the name of someone from my past and found that he had an "insurance" website. So I went to the site and just checked it out, I did not sign in or register or do anything but just move around his site. Three days later I get an e-mail from facebook saying this person has requested to be my friend. Please tell me it is just one of those huge unrelated cosmic happenings and that he did not find out I was on his site.

I mean I really don't care so much that he knows I visited his site, I am just freaked out that he could find out through my facebook account!

Any advice or words of comfort?

Thanks,
Debbie Russo

I don't know a lot about facebook, I just joined a few weeks ago.
But one of the first things I did was go to my settings and de-activate a lot of info sharing things. Also, facebook will go through your e-mail account that is linked to facebook, look through your names, and will tell you if those people are on facebook. I know that as soon as I joined (and hadn't done anything beyond that) that several friends asked me to be their 'friend', presumably because I was in their e-mail address books. I can only assume that I popped up on their facebook friend as having a facebook page. And I know it 'suggests' people to me from my e-mail address book, as well.

Don't know if this helps, but I'm sure someone else out there knows more

Well I'm pretty sure that he/she couldn't tell that is was YOU looking at the website at that time. I mean I suppose it's possible, but I would just chalk it up to a really big coincidence.

Just message them on facebook and ask them how they found you. That's what I'd do.;)

Debbie - As long as you have your FB account set to private he can't see anything on your page. I would just reject the friend request and that would be the end of it. To keep people from the past that I DO NOT want to hear from from contacting me, I don't use my first and last name on FB. I just use my first and middle like on here. It's a lot harder for someone to track me down that way. And my e-mail on there is new, so no one has it except for my current friends and family. If there are people that you can think of by name who you do not want them to have anyway to find you or see that you are on FB, you can block them. You just have find out what their FB name is. Also, remember that any photo albums you have are public unless you go in and mark them so that only friends can see them.
