Exercise Videos

I am looking for a good floor aerobics video that I can do while pregnant. I am five months pregnant and am finding the ones designed especially for pregnancy way too easy. I have a couple of step videos that I like, but I can't really find any good floor tapes--everything seems to be either higher impact than I want, or so basic I don't enjoy it.

Some suggestions

I had to stop doing hi-lo around 7 months because of round ligament spasms, but I'll try to answer your question. My response assumes that you had some experience with hi-lo prior to pregnancy and therefore know how to modify high impact moves.

You might try Donna Richardson's Donna-Mite video or the Crunch Masterclass video with Michael Perron. Both are mostly low-impact, and you could modify the higher sections as needed. Two others that come to mind are Gay Gasper's recent release through Creative Instructors Aerobics or Christi Taylor's Happy Hour Hi-Lo. Gay's tape is mostly low impact except for the last combination, where she adds some bouncing in to the knees and kicks, but they're easy to modify if you're a regular to hi-lo (and the male background exerciser seems to be keeping everything low anyway). Christi's tape is far more complex, but very well-cued and fun to learn. You would probably need to modify as your pregnancy progresses because there are some hops and pivots that might become problematic as you get bigger and your joints get looser.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, Hazel

I think I'm going to try the Gay Gasper video and Hi-Lo Heaven. Learning some new choreography sounds like fun, and I think I read that the Gay Gasper video has a six-mos. pregnant woman doing modifications.

You're welcome!

I should say though that Hi/Lo Heaven is the name of Christi's newest tape that was just filmed last week and won't be released until July. So obviously I don't know anything about that tape or whether it could be modified (from what I understand, it has some intervals in it, so that clearly wouldn't be appropriate for pregnant exercisers at any level of fitness). The one I was suggesting was her one from last summer--Happy Hour Hi/Lo.

Also, Gay does have a pregnant exerciser in the STEP portion of her 2K01 video, but not the hi/lo portion (although the male exerciser seems like he gets pretty pooped out toward the end there and keeps everything pretty much very low impact, so you can follow him for modifications as you need to).

With those clarifications, good luck!
