Exercise shocking system and causing irregular period w...

Hello ladies, I am not a regular so I hope you will still help me out on my question :).

My husband and I are TTC with our 2nd child. My ovulation window was between 12/24 and 12/29 (last week). Yesterday I started my period! I am about 8 days early. Because I am usually very regular (30-31 day cycle) I was worried and called my OBGYN and spoke with one of the nurses. She asked about any major changes physically or mentally recently and I explained that I tore the ligaments in my ankle in August and was in a cast until December 7th. During that time, I was unable to do aeorbic exercise. However, the last 2 weeks of December I started doing Cathe's Body Blast Kick Punch and Crunch and Boot Camp every day and explained that these were 50 minutes to an hr work out. She said that I had shocked my system and this caused my menstrual cycle to go berserk.

She then went on to explain that avid female runners and olympic athletes often don't have periods or ovulate. Have you all heard of this? She told me to not do cardio workouts for more than 1/2 an hour and no more than 3x per week while ttc. I am kinda bummed about this bc I have really missed my Cathe cardio workouts for the last few mos in the cast. Does this mean that I can't do more than 30 minutes 3x per week once I am pg?

Any advice or sharing of similiar experiences would be very helpful.

Thanks so much in advance for your feedback or thoughts.

Michele,

Hi, I am not a doctor but anything is possible. Sure it does
seem more than likely you could have unintentionally put
your system in a bit of a shock but like so many things
in life we will never really know. Sometimes your period
just changes.
I am pregnant with my second. I exercised up to the day
my water broke w/my first. I do know you have to modify
most of your exercises mostly because of safety but also
because it becomes tough as your belly grows.
I have heard gymnasts, etc will not get their period until
soemtimes they are in their 20's. I do not know very fit women
who do not get their peiods unless they have low body fat or
have an eating disorder.

Good Luck Michele!
