exercise after a slipped disk

It's official -- I have a slipped disk in my back. It's not the kind that is pressing on the nerve, just a bulging disk that has been causing pain. After several visits with my chiropracter, it's finally getting better. I've been walking every day as part of my rehab, and now I feel like I am about ready to get back into exercise. So where do I start?

Before the back problem, I had just completed Cathe's November '06 rotation, so I was in fairly good shape. I have not exercised for about 3 weeks now (I don't count the walks because they have been slow). I'm thinking of starting back with LoMax and some earlier step videos, and then, if all goes well, maybe some circuit workouts. Does that sound wise?

I will talk with my chiropracter of course, but he isn't familiar with Cathe so when I tell him I'm a video exerciser, he doesn't really get what that means. So I'm hoping that some of you can offer some advice.

Thanks!

Mel

I would be careful about this kind of injury because it can very easily lead to problems involving the nerve. I would absolutely defer to the opinion of a doctor. If your doc doesn't know what you mean, I would explain to him what kind of exercise Cathe does specifically. My first inclination is that high impact is a no no. I really wouldn't do any propulsion types of moves if I was you. Please be careful and use the wisdom of your physician.

I would also agree not to any high impact until you get the go ahead from your DR. You might also try PT. They will teach you strength exercises for you core and your back too.

Please be very careful and speak with your doctor first. This is from someone who got a herniated disk from doing deadlifts incorrectly. I had dibilitating paid for 10 months 24/7 unti I had surgery to revove the piece that was hitting a nerve. If you can fix it now before it gets to that point you are lucky. I was not. Anything that torks your back around, ( eg kickboxing) or puts pressure on your lower back is bad. JMO.
