Espresso place close by?

llp

Cathlete
Hi!
I like to have a latte in the mornings, and I wondered if there is a good espresso place close by--walking distance? Or maybe the restaurants in the hotels make tasty lattes?

A couple of years ago, I was in the Cherry Hill area, and espresso was kind of hard to find. Everywhere here (Portland, OR), you see a coffeehouse(or 2) on every corner(although some of the Starbuck's are closing down due to the economic situation).

Anyone like lattes?

thanks in advance for the info!:)

Hi Linda,

My dear, I'm afraid Dunkin' Donuts is about it in that neck of the woods. The nearest Starbucks (per their website) is a 15 mile roundtrip and it's located inside a Target. Peet's Coffee closest location is at the Philly airport....:(

I don't know how the locals survive! Maybe there's a local coffee house haunt that Cathe and Chris can reveal to us RTers...

The Dunkin' Donuts is right in front of Cathe's Gym (which is located in a "strip" mall). So if you can hold off until we get to the gym in the mornings via the bus....you should be fine. :)

Hi Joan and Kathy:
Thanks for the info on espresso! Sounds like Dunkin' Donuts might have to be it; we'll see! Maybe I can live without my lattes for a couple of days:confused: ;), but probably not, 'coz Cathe's workouts are going to make me need that extra boost! Yes, Joan, I wonder how the locals survive? At home I have an espresso machine, and can make my own, so I don't need to spend $$$ everyday, although it is a nice treat to get one at a good coffeehouse. I have a Peet's 2 miles from me that I really like(I buy my coffee beans from there, actually), so, I will have to get a drink there at PHL airport going back to Portland. Coming in ,I won't because it will be after 8:00pm and I'll need to get my rest!

When I was staying in Cherry Hill 2 years ago, they had espresso in that grocery store, I think it was called Wegman's(???) and at Starbuck's all in the same shopping center! Also found one at Noah's Bagels. Not sure where Cherry Hill is in relation to where we are staying, but, I'm sure it is not walking distance!

Looking forward to meeting you two:D.

Hi Ruth--
How did you find out my age? ;) I cannot figure out how to see people's ages. Anyway, glad to see there will be an older one like me around! Okay, now I know everyone is gonna look up my age! But, I am not trying to hide it, so that's okay.

As far as the caffeine goes, I read on the OD forum about "Click", and because there don't seem to be any coffee houses close by to the hotel, I may just try that option. Click is some powdered chocolate caffeine mixture you can drink hot or cold. Or, I might pack some Double Shot or Red Bull cans in my suitcase. I wonder if they would blow up in my luggage on the plane, though?!?!? Anyone know?

The reason I am wanting the caffeine, is because if I am going to be getting up at or 6:00am, I will be adjusting to the time differences. I'm from Portland Oregon, and that will be like getting up at 3:00am. There's a 3 hour time difference! I don't know if I will adjust to this very fast(especially with all the physically tiring activities). I will definitely need some kind of boost or a nice long nap! But, I think I might miss a lot if I take a nap... Anyway, by the time it will take me to adjust to that timezone, it will be Sunday, and time to go home!

Ruth, I will PM you.....

Ruth- I just tried to PM you, but, I think you have set your PM options off. Could you PM me if you have time?

I have no clue what pm is, I'll get back with you.
I'm sorry about the age thing, you look fantastic!!
I'm 51!
Ruth
p.s. I'm thrilled to hear from you!!
Can we be freinds?

Starbucks IS nearby

Ladies, there's a Starbucks that's just a few minutes' drive (maybe 10) from Cathe's gym -- we Coordinators have been there several times. I'll try to make sure that we get directions for you all -- please remind us as we get closer to the RT, okay? :D

No problem about the age thing! I figured out how to look at ages on people...;). Also you look great for age, too(you are a bit younger than I am).

To PM means to "personal message" me. You do that by clicking on my name at the top of the post, then a drop down menu appears with the option to send a personal message me. You can try it! That option doesn't seem to work for your account....
And, yes, we can be friends! :D

Hi Kathy: Starbucks will definitely be a welcome treat for this sleep-deprived Roadtripper! :) I googled "coffee houses" and there seems to be one around the University. I have no idea my point of reference, though. My latte first thing in the morning will probably be something other than Starbuck's though, because I definitely cannot walk there! (I won't have a car) Thanks for the info!

Bless you Kathy.....I was dying without my triple grandes last year - LOVE ESPRESSO!

WHAT?????? You've been holding out on us??:D This is BIG NEWS! (doing a happy dance.....) Thanks for letting us know--I will be sure to remind you as we get closer to the RT. :p

At the '07 RT, I made do w/ my own tea, but Cathe after my morning cappucino changes everything!!

Maybe we could have the Cathe bus take us to Starbucks before we hit her gym! I am just kidding of course, but, wouldn't that be perfect for those of us that need that shot or two of espresso? :D

Drumroll please.... Starbucks DIRECTIONS!

Howdy-do to the Caffeinated Crowd on this BEE-YOO-TEE-FUL spring day in Atlanta! My condolences if you're still sufferin' winter, and in about two weeks you can feel sorry for me when our monster pollen season kicks in! :p

For those of you who have been waiting breathlessly, here is the RIDICULOUSLY SIMPLE route to Starbucks from Cathe's gym. You'll see that it's close enough to make a mad dash anytime you're just jonesing for a latte.

We'll also put these directions into your "Driving Directions for the Weekend" master document, which is one of 7 or 8 handy-dandy things we'll be getting to you within the next two months. ;) But in the meantime Deb, Lorrayne and I thought we should put your worried minds at ease!

TO STARBUCKS, FROM CATHE'S GYM:
Make a left out of Cathe's gym's parking lot onto Delsea Drive. At the first traffic light you come to (about 100 yards down the road), you will HAVE to make a left (there's no option to go right) onto Greentree Rd. (PB’s diner and Burger King are at that light). Starbucks is about 3 miles down Greentree Rd. on the right hand side, on the corner of Egg Harbor Rd. and Greentree Rd.

One more thing -- Cathe says they DO have a drive-thru, and that she also sees people in there all the time wearing sweaty, stinky, post-workout clothes. Meaning we won't stand out. :D

this is so easy...cannot believe it was so close and I missed it...

thanks Kathy, I can rest better now lol...well, not right now because I gave up coffee for lent, so maybe after Easter and definitely during the roadtrip ;-)

Happy Friday!

P.S. Linda - no need to treat....my pleasure to drive you ... let's try to meet up.

Debbie - of course I will take a to-go order for you - I arrived real late on Friday last year and you took good care of me and made me feel welcome (kind of intimidating walking into a room of 100 people late - gotta love work)....so I owe you!

Thank you Reena! I'm glad to have helped. You don't owe me a thing. I look so forward to meeting everyone on the RT's so I am glad I was able to help make you feel a bit more comfy! Be sure to come up and say hi when you arrive! (Coffee or NO coffee in hand! LOL!)
