<---had the most exasperating and odd weekend ever...will stop arrow speak here...

A bit of background...my DH and I cannot have children. In 1994, we moved to Utah to be closer to DH's parents. No relationship problems existed with his parents and my SIL/BIL at that time. Over the last thirteen years, we have struggled to not make waves or involve his family in our personal opinions, feelings or business. Thus, we do not whine, complain or discuss anything of value with them. Well, this has not necessarily been helpful in that the female part of DH's family has over the years ASSUMED that I did not want children and have treated me badly for it. I am only an Aunt in name and I couldn't possible know how to care for children either (BTW I am an Advanced EMT, LOL). I have always promised DH that I would not upset his mother by defending myself and starting an argument so I have had to eat a lot of crap over the years. The only time we are welcome in SIL/BIL home is when it is a child's birthday for example.
This weekend, my DH promised me that he would take his father to the side and discuss the problems we have and try to find resolution with his father. Well, the discussion did not go that way and actually was started by DH's dad. DH's dad said that SIL was mad at us because DH said something about drinking beer when he was a teen to our nephew. DH asked WTH and asked his dad if her children live in a bubble or what?! I love my DH and I support him 110%. He would have never told our nephew that underage drinking was good or appropriate. He probably just told him the truth regarding HIS OWN life. Long story short, DH unleashed on his dad and told him EVERYTHING! I mean everything which has disturbed us over the years...thirteen years worth. His dad was shocked because DH usually doesn't say anything and just smooths stuff over. DH said he was sick of it and let loose. I am relieved in some ways but sad in others. We are good people and don't deserve the crap we have been handed. It will be interesting to see what pans out with the holidays coming...SIGH! I will let DH take the lead right by his side. He has mandated that he WILL NOT be in the same house with DS, her children nor her husband. He told his father that if he wants to see us during the holidays CALL US after his sister is gone. WOW! I was quite proud of DH for making a stand but it is unsettling to not know what will happen in the near future. Don't see any apologies coming that is one prediction I can make... :) I am not too worried about the children...they hardly know us; we see them at the mandatory birthday parties, Thanksgiving and Christmas. We have been the gift givers not aunt/uncle to the children. Sad really...
