I just got this email message from one of the ladies in the office who used to be afraid of me (when she was new to the agency)...

Donna,

It’s the little things that people such as you do or say to make someone’s day.

THANK YOU

All I did was tell her she looked really nice in blue the other day (which she did because she has pretty blue eyes) and say, "Good morning, Sunshine" to her this morning. I won't tell her that I also say that to my daughter, my cats, the mailman...it's just one of those phrases that feels good coming out of the mouth. Reminds me of the musical "Hair" - one of my all-time favorite movies. And that's actually "Good morning, Starshine" but whatever.

Oh...I was kidding about the mailman. I don't even know what he looks like. Or if he's actually a man.

Did you guys ever notice how much I babble?

That was very cool! It is amazing what affect you can have on people and not even realize how you make their day better just by being yourself! That was very sweet.

It is amazing how the little things can brighten someone's day. I always try to remeber that....esp with little old people. I love them all so much...I love just to sit and talk to them, most of them are so lonley and it makes such a difference to them to have someone listen to them and give them a little extra attention! I used to work in nursing homes drawing blood for the lab, and on the days where I was not busy, I would offer to paint a little ladies toe nails, or to go get them coffee, You would think you just gave them a million dollars...it would really brighten there day.

One time, I was talking to a little lady , and she said how much she missed her garden, and fresh cantalope, so I got some cantelope out of my dad's garden and brought it for her, and she cried she was so happy that someone did something like that for her. I did not think it was that big of a deal, but to her, it made her feel so much better. I better stop talking about older people, I could talk all day about how much I enjoy them.......I just wished some of their family members felt the same way.

Oh, Joanna, your post made me happy. It's amazing how something so small to us can mean so much. I have a great-aunt in a nursing home, and when I go visit her, I always go around to other residents and visit with them. It breaks my heart to see these people whose families never come see them. They must be so lonely.
