Elliptical Trainer

I just don't seem to get as good a workout on an elliptical that I do on the treadmill or Stair Mill. I need to start using this machine owing to knee problems. What resistance is everyone using and at what speed are you stepping? I see people going really fast and it just doesn't look like they are getting anything out of it. Your comments please.

I have an elliptical and I get one heck of a great workout on it. My heart rate soars and the evidence of my hard work is left behind in a puddle of sweat.

As far as settings go, that's something you'll have to play around with. Sometimes I like to crank up the resistance, and other times I go for speed. Either way, I always get a great workout. My machine has a variety of built-in programs to choose from as well as a manual setting. My elliptical doesn't have the movable handlebars, which is just as well because I think you get a better workout without them by focusing on the larger muscle groups.

You might want to try audio workouts like Cardio Coach, or the iClimb workouts by iTrain. They might help you to focus and give you a better, more efficient workout.

As Michele said try out the Cardio Coaches or iTrain workouts. I get a great workout on my Elliptical. I like iClimbs the best from iTrain as Keith will guide you through all the different resistance levels. My heart rate gets up higher the higher the resistance and boy do I feel it in my legs...:)

Another vote for giving iClimb a try. I might start at a resistance of 3 and work my way up to 10-12. Then at times, I'll go for speed. I get a good workout either way.
