echogenic bowel

I was told that I have 3 microscopic areas of echogenic bowel at my first ultrasound. Grade 2-2.5. All other findings were completely normal. I was sent to a neonatologist and he reproted the same finding. The baby appears perfectly noraml in regards to growth measurements, heart, open hands/fist visible, spine, skull, etc. I am not a carrier for cf. My afp was 1 in 3400 (negative). The cmv and toxoplasmosis tests were both negative. The next option is an amniocentesis. I would rather avoid this if possible... The online education varies widely from mortality to perfectly normal babies. Has anyone else had a simiiliar experience. I am terribly worried

I haven't had that experience, but I was a NICU nurse for 7 years fresh out of nursing school. Please use the info you find online as a guide only. As you probably know, the accuracy of any info online (especially medical!) can be very untrustworthy. If you already have seen a Neonatologist, place your trust in him/her. Premature babies are, as you already know, their specialty, and they should be your first source of advice and information. Ask him/her to recommend articles or other info to read, rather than trying to find it yourself. It's overwhelming right now for you, and you need someone to steer you in the right direction. I can understand your wanting to avoid an amniocentesis if possible, but if this is what your OB/GYN and the Neonatologist are recommending, I would have it done. It will answer more questions for you, and hopefully put you at peace with the ultrasound findings. Please keep us updated! I'll keep you and your precious little one in my prayers!!
