Just a question for the educated crowd---- I have heard not to eat anything else past 7:00pm (or whenever time is about 3 hrs before you go to bed) AND have also heard it does not matter if you eat right before going to bed (it matters on the number of calories not when you eat them that counts.) HMMMM I get so confused on the mixed messages sometimes. Thanks for your answers.

Yeah, it is confusing sometimes, isn't it?
To add to the confusion, I've also read that it's good to eat right before going to bed, and that even getting up to eat in the middle of the night is good if you're looking to put on muscle and lose fat, because it will keep your metabolism up during the night.

I take a middle-of-the-road approach. After about 8:00, I'm careful about what I eat, sticking usually to an apple or some herbal tea (which I guess I drink instead of eat ;-) ) or something light.

I was just talking to my husband about the conflicting info about this.

I generally don't eat after dinner, so I usually go from about 6:30pm - 8:30am without eating. I just read, though, that going too long without eating will cause your body to lower it's metabolism - it will go into starvation mode. But I've also read that if you don't eat at night, your body will use up some of it's fat stores while you are sleeping.

Very confusing!!

eat

I think if you're hungry at night, then you should eat something. It's not fun trying to fall asleep with a growling stomach- then you're more likely to get up and eat some junk like cookies or chips. My problem is, at night, I'm not really busy, so it's easier to eat junk food and eat too many calories.

I just read that eating at night isn't bad if you haven't gone over your calorie limit for the day. It's the excess calories that are the problem. And you shouldn't be waking up starving either.

RE: eat

I always eat at night and agree that it's not good to go to bed hungry, and it's the total calories for the day that count.
