Eat to Live?

Of all the gazillions of eating plans out now, could someone tell me the basic concept of the Eat to Live plan? I'm trying to decide if it would be for me.

I appreciate any info.

I just finished the book and thought it was very interesting.

It is basically a vegan plan and recommends lots of fruits and vegetables, beans and whole grains.

I'm not following the diet, but I enjoyed reading it for the nutrition information and it was great for reinforcing eating "clean" versus eating junk and how it affects the body.

Yes it does steer towards vegetarian, but there is a weekly menu of Vegetarian and then a weekly menu of non-vegetarian but probably less animal protein than most people normally eat. I have been on the diet 3 weeks and have lost 11 lbs, my husband lost 18 so far.

From reading the book (twice) the concept is cutting out animal protein, dairy products, any processed food and as the other post said eat alot of fruit and vegeys, beans too. Dr Fuhrman shows statistics of the increase of cancer when the saturated fat is more prevalent in the diet as compared to a diet without the saturated fat. The things off limits are dairy products, animal products, between meal snacks (I eat fuit if I get hungry), fruit juice and dried fruit. Fruits and vegeys are fairly unlimited. The first 6 week plan is the strict one, then it seems you can cheat a bit as long as you continue getting the fruits and vegeys and the other things he lists.

I never thought I would consider being a vegetarian...but I have now for the last 10 days. I am very interested in lowering my cholesterol and Dr Fuhrman has had patients that have followed his plan and have done exactly that. I have probably rambled too long but if you have any other questions I'd be happy to help...:)...Carole
