Easy, Healthy, Packable Snack/Lunch for Kids?

Does anyone have any ideas for healthy, packable snacks and lunches that are easy to grab or put together? My 9-yr-old son abhors fruit and vegetables (lucky me!) and I can make him eat them at home, but he won't at school. He's also allergic to peanuts. (Other nuts are okay.) Any suggestions?

My son is 12 & I usually pack up a tortilla wrapped sandwich w/tuna fish or roast beef or turkey w/lettuce (he won't eat tomatoes). I also pack up a Ziploc bag of carrots w/FF ranch dressing made from the packet & using FF sour cream or plain yogurt & fruit. He tells me he's very tempted by what the other kids eat. However, the other day I packed up a cut up kiwi & all the kids at his table never heard of it!! Can you imagine? Needless to say they all wanted his fruit instead of what he had. He told them "No way I only get 4 pieces & your not getting any!" What a hoot! Another funny story: My son's friend wanted to know what the brown bread was (whole wheat) & he told my son that I should go to 7 Eleven & purchase the white!! Ha! Kids are great aren't they? I hope I've helped some & made you laugh, Kathy:7

I was amazed at how when my daughter was growing up, her friends would mention I was the only Mom they knew that actually did grocery shopping each week and made dinner every night in lieu of fast food:eek:

I still can't imagine. Just the cost of fast food alonex( Not to mention the crap that goes into them x(

Have you tried dried fruit? I know it's not as good, but if he doesn't like fresh, maybe some dried cranberries would be good. I love those.
Yeah, the wheat tortilla thing would be good, my son loves wraps, from subway and Arbys. So, I will start making them at home now. Just lettuce, maybe light mayo, and turkey. He loves it!
Another thought might be to include some granola bars, the non-chewy kind. At least he's getting in some whole grains that way.

Hi Soosan

How about...
applesauce
cottage cheese
apple slices with those little carmel dip cups
frozen gogurts
salami (not the healthiest), string cheese and wheatables
date/bran muffins (I make them ahead of time and the batter lasts for 6 weeks in the fridge - we love them!)

That's all I can think of for now. Hope this helps!
