Early Check-In because I'm bored.......

Hi everyone!! I'm bored so I thought I'd check in. I have 7 weeks to go until my competition and I think things are going well. I'm definately seeing some improvements in my physique. Tough week, all around, I've been very tired. I'm told that normal, so I'll believe it. Here's a tip I've learned, LOW CARB DIETS SUCK!!!!!! If you don't have to go on one DON'T!! Oh, on the days that my carbs have to be low, my brain feels like it's in such a fog!! Get at least 200gr in a day, you'll feel a lot more energetic!! Ok, here's my week.

MON- a.m. power walk 35min., BBA and calves, p.m. CTX SNI

TUES- a.m. power walk 35min, Chest and tri's and forearms, p.m. CTX 10-10-10

WED- a.m. yoga, Shoulders, Legs, and abs

THURS- a.m. power walk 30min

FRI- a.m. power walk 35min (you know, sometimes 5 min really makes a difference!! Don't ask me why. Maybe because I hate being up at 5:30;-)!) Chest and Back and forearms, p.m. BodyMax (cardio only)

SAT- a.m. power walk 30min, Shoulders, Legs, and Abs p.m. CTX Kickbox

SUN- REST!! Maybe a little yoga:)!

Ok, everyone, have a great week!!

Aimee

Aimee, you really are working hard!

My week was fairly good even though I have felt kind of sluggish!I'm going to the doctor next week to have my thyroid rechecked and if it is still abnormal then I will go on medication. I think it is enlarged because I am having a little trouble swallowing. Anyway, here it is...

MONDAY: Rhythmic Step (1st section) AND CIA 9806 (1st section)

TUESDAY: Power Hour AND CIA 9806 (1st section)

WEDNESDAY: OFFICIAL FUNCTIONAL FITNESS DAY!!!!!!! I did three hours of yard work which included cutting a tree limb up that had fallen, cutting grass, weedeating, and trimming hedges. I was one tired puppy after all that.

THURSDAY: Step This Way The whole enchilada!

FRIDAY: 2.5 mile walk/run

SATURDAY: 3 mile walk/run

I really am fighting some heavy duty fatigue and I am hoping the doctor can give me some answers this week. Wish me luck.

Have a great week everyone!!!!

Kelly

My husband has commandeered the DVD player to watch Hannibal, so I am banished to the computer room. Guess I'll check in now, too.

Kelly -- glad to see another CIA 9806 fan. I'm hoping to like Rhythmic Step as much, if not more. Good luck with the thyroid check. My dad had hypothyroidism and it made such a difference in his energy level when he finally started the medication.

SATURDAY: Canoeing on the Green River below Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Utah, approx. 8 miles with approx. 10 Class II rapids (or at least it seemed like it!)
SUNDAY: more paddling on the Green, including the clean conquest of the class III Red Creek Rapid, with a fully-loaded canoe :-jumpy
MONDAY: two hours of straight flatwater paddle with hubby laying on his back in the bow
TUESDAY: 1.5 mile jog on treadmill
WEDNESDAY: 9 miles cycling, PS CST & Back
THURSDAY: 1.5 mile jog on treadmill, PS SLA
FRIDAY-SATURDAY: hiking at work

I'm slowly but surely gearing up for the 5K on October 28. I'm following the beginner's 5K plan from "Hal Higdon's How to Train." It's been hard to schedule in enough runs with all the overnight shifts at the outdoor ed center and all the (absolutely necessary) paddling.

I'm leaving biceps out of my strength rotation right now. I'm nursing a paddling injury, and they seem to get a fair amount of work with the chest and back work as it is.

Have a great Sun(ny)day!

:) Gretchen

LAST EDITED ON Sep-09-01 AT 04:38AM (Est)[p]All CTX for me again this week, and am I glad! I'm tired....not really getting a day off this week. Spent all day Friday at the Cleveland Clinic while my dad had an angioplasty (spelling?), which came out fine, by the way. And yesterday I had an all day meeting at the church, so there went my weekend. I have to work 5 hours today, and then I'm going to come home and collapse.

CTX is a blessing to me! I get good workouts, and don't have to spend hours doing it! The Nordictrack has sat there all week, but I hope to get it in motion soon. I think I'm going to start those 10 minute tack-on sessions we've talked about, and also use my bike more that way. I watch TV anyway, so I may as well get some extra exercise on a cardio machine.

Saturday: Legs at the Y and Kickbox and biceps
Sunday: All Step and shoulders
Monday: Power Circuit and back, with extra leg work (leg extensions, leg curls, and inner and outer thighs)
Tues: Step and Intervals and chest
Wed. 10-10-10 and Triceps (my favorite weight section of these tapes)
Thurs: Legs at the Y
Friday: Rest

Started this new week off (my weeks start on Saturday) with Kickbox and biceps only.

It's 4:32 am, do you know where your children are? Mine are probably asleep in their own houses. You know you did OK when your kids are close to 30 and don't live at home!!!!!! Yippee! My oldest will be 30 next year.....YIKES!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys...

Aimee: Tough workouts, girl! Hang in there! I remember years ago working out at a gym where someone I knew was going into competition and she was always absolutely EXHAUSTED right before a competition. (not that that helps you any...)

Kelly: Maybe you're fighting off a sore throat/viral type of thing. Good idea to go to the doctor and get everything checked...Hope everything turns out okay.

As for me, my workouts have been few and far between. I'm getting over a 6-week flare-up of my Colitis/Crohn's disease (doctor can't seem to figure out which one!) and I'm still taking it fairly easy. I wasn't going to check in at all but I remember DebbieH saying in another posting that we should anyway, so here I am!

Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Rest
Wednesday: Crunch Joy of Yoga
Thursday: Visit to Gastro Doctor - Rest.
Friday: CTX Back/CTX Chest/CTX Shoulders/Abs
Saturday: S&H Biceps&Triceps/Abs
Sunday: Probably some yoga...

I've noticed that cardio workouts really knock me out...and after receiving very good advice of just doing yoga and weight training until after this passes, I've decided to do just that.

Have a good week!

Terri

RE: Gretchen!!

Your 5k and my competition are on the same weekend!! Mine is Oct. 27th. I know you'll do great!! If you want email me after your race and let me know how you did!! Too cool that someone has a contest/race the same weekend as me. You know what it's like counting down the weeks! If you want, we can email each other and keep each other motivated for our endeavors?

Aimee

Terri, I'm surprised you can do any workout with all that going on. Whichever condition you have I know they are tough. We all want you to check in even if you have not worked out at all. Those with obstacles to overcome are the ones that inspire the most. You continue to workout even though you could just as easily do nothing and no one would blame you. So I say you did a great job!

Kelly

Hi, everybody! I started my workout week on Sunday 9/2 and I think my training is going well and I am pleased that I can be consistant and enjoy it too. But I have a bad habit of being disappointed and perhaps a little obsessive if I rest even when I know it's what I need!

Sunday BodyMax
Monday Rhythmic Step
Tuesday 5 mile run/Power Hour
Wednesday Rest
Thursday 5 miler/MIS
Friday MIC
Saturday Rest("active rest" major housework!

I wanted to do two full body strength sessions (which I did) plus 6 cardio sessions, but had to settle for 5 cardio sessions because my quads were so sore from MIS on Thursday!

RE: Gretchen!!

Sounds great, Aimee! I have to have that 5K looming in front of me, or I would never run. Until there's a swim/bike/paddle triathlon, I'm going to need to learn to run.

:) Gretchen

Hi, Terri!

I'm so glad you checked in. Crohn's/colitis certainly sucks (I know because I have it, too) and it's great that you can do the weight training and yoga. It helps with the stress and keeps one from feeling like a sick weakling.

When my disease was at its worst, I bought some pink one and two-pound dumbbells so I could keep going. I was on high doses of prednisone (which is muscle-wasting) and got sore doing the Quick Toning Arms & Abs of Steel workout when I tried to move up to the two-pounders. My husband used to tease me about those little pink dumbbells, but every day that I put on those Reeboks was a good day.

:) Gretchen

I'm always so tired on Sunday. This was my first week at home and I also babysat. Those extra kids take their toll!

Sun. rest
Mon. RS WU + sec. 2,3, challenge
Tue. S&H Chest back
Wed. CircuitMax up to where she uses the step. I had such a hard time getting motivated for cardio this week.
Thu. S&H Bis tris
Fri. 2K05 step, but quit early
Sat. S&H Legs shoulders + PH abs

I need to do a little better on my cardio, but I am really enjoying S&H. Haven't even done PH yet!

Andrea

Ok, I just typed a bunch of stuff and my computer somehow erased it, so I will just say that I am inspired as usual by all of your workouts...Here is my week, darn it!

Sunday: hike 7.2 miles

Monday: rest (return from weekend away)

Tuesday: S&H chest and back

Wednesday: Rhythmic Step, + MIC stretch

Thursday: rest

Friday: Bodymax wu and cardio, + Imax cooldown and stretch
S&H tris and bis

Saturday: rest (major housecleaning)

Sunday: S&H legs and shoulders

(I guess I should have done Legs and shoulders yesterday..oops. I got confused because I started this rotation on a Sunday, and I usually start on a Monday. Oh, well!)

When I look back on my old workouts, compared to those of the past several months, I feel like I do so much less than I used to. However, by cutting back from 5 or 6 cardio sessions per week down to 3 or 4, I have more energy, MUCH less knee pain, and no change in cardio capacity that I notice. Also, my joints feel better in general. I guess sometimes less is more :)

Have a good week, everyone :)
Wendy

I thought I would join in here, just because I find it inspiring to read everyone else's workouts. I just finished 3 weeks of S and H as a rotation with one other full body workout. Now I will start a PS rotation with PH once a week. I was going to do it for 3 weeks and then go back to S and H, but after reading Cathe's recommendation of a longer PS rotation, I may change my mind. Anyway, here was my week.

Sunday: Power Hour (only the 2nd time--man is it tough! My husband wonders what I am groaning about in the lunges.)

Monday: MIC

Tuesday: CTX 10-10-10 cardio with S and H legs and shoulders

Wednesday: CTX Step Intervals cardio with S and H Chest, Back

Thursday: CTX Circuits with S and H Bi's, Tri's and Abs

Friday: Rhythmic Step plus abs on Leaner Legs

I just started my new week again with Power Hour( a little easier) and tomorrow, IMAX. Hope everyone has a great week!

RE: Hi, Terri!

Gretchen:
I know I just wrote to you privately, but I just wanted to add that I totally understand about the two-pounder weights! My hubby went out and bought me a set of one-pounder and the two-pounder weights also....I sit there using them remember when I could hoist up the 20-pounders with no problem. But then I sit back and just feel happy to be doing ANYTHING at this point!

Like you said any day I can put on those Reeboks (or Ryka's, in my case) is a darn good day!

Terri

RE: A Lil' Late Here!

Debbie,

The flower signature is thanks to you. I love the smilies website as do my "flowers", daughters, Ali and Sydney! You speak the truth! I am glad I took the day off Saturday because I ran on Sunday and did Interval Max today. And I lived to tell about it. The problem is on off days I want to kill the extra time eating!

Terri,

Have you ever heard if Rachel Remen? She was featured in Bill Moyer's Healing and the Mind PBS many years ago. She is a pediatrition turned couselor who suffers from Crohn's disease. She is an amazing author. You might enjoy her books. My particular favorite is called My Grandfather's Blessing. She works with terminally ill patients and sometimes it seems it's people facing an uncertain future who teach us all how to live our lives fully. Check Rachel Naomi Remen's books out. They are wonderful and so is she!

RE: A Lil' Late Here!

Bobbi:
No, I've never heard of Rachel Remen but I will definitely look into her books. Sounds interesting...

Thanks!

Terri

RE: A Lil' Late Here!

Terri,

I have discovered a great source for used books online.
http://www.half.com
If you search for Rachel Naom Remen under books, all or most of hers are available and the prices are great even with shipping.

My name will not be smiling today. I have been watching the coverage of the devastation in New York and D.C. and I think I've lost a little bit of my soul today. I am so afraid to know how many lives have been lost, how many lives destroyed. God help us!
