Cathe, or anyone do you think holding the dumbells at your sides when doing lunges, squats plies, leg presses etc. is as effective as when you place them on yur shoulders?I know thre is less stress on your bak when you hold tem down but do your legs and but get a good workout? Just want to maximize my results.

I do not think that dumbbell placement is a very important factor. There may be some differences in muscle fibers recruited when holding the weight at various positions. For example, Cathe has told us that holding one dumbbell down in front on plie squats (as in S&H) will work a little deeper into the groin area than when the bar is on your shoulders doing this same exercise.

However, what is most important is to be comfortable and maintain proper form and to realy zero in on the leg muscles--wherever holding the weight may be for you.
