Drill Max and Fat Loss-Carb Question!!!

Cathlete
My goal is to lose fat and one can agree that Cathe's circuit dvds will definitely do the trick...but I'm a little confused on the fat loss issue because I definitely can't do Drill Max on an empty stomach (I'll faint!) Doing cardio on an empty stomach will burn more fat (or so they say...) So I'll eat a banana beforehand...now, when high intensity exercise is done, your body uses carbs for energy...if none are available then it starts eating up muscle tissue....Am I right? So how can I lose FAT while preserving my MUSCLE TISSUE??? Please someone help me understand this!

I cannot help you understand anything, but what I know is that I think it is generally agreed upon that your body needs fuel and it is best to eat a high protein snack with some carbs before a workout, and then refuel afterwards. I would think a banana is a good choice b/c of the potassium, and adding some healthy peanut butter (or nut butter of your choice) would be good. I have heard the idea of not eating, but it doesn't make sense to me, and I am like you - I would literally pass right out, or at the least, feel terrible and have a splitting headache for the rest of the day. So, my two cents are to eat lightly but wisely, and really, they say to eat small meals throughout the day anyway so that you are never ravenous. Good luck :)

Not necessarily. Your body has 2 sources of energy: carbs & fat. Once it uses up the energy from carbs it switches to fat.

The big question mark is: how long does your body burn fat until it switches to burning muscle? Obviously much of this depends on how much fat your body actually has to burn. This is why you'll see obese people lose weight so much faster than those who are in shape.

I do a low carb diet & I won't do more than 50-60 minutes of cardio b/c I'm trying to burn fat but also prevent muscle loss. I think it's different for everyone, you have to play w/your routine until you find one your comfortable with.
