Dr Weil?

Hi All:

Does anyone have an opinion of Dr Weil? I know he is popular and, from what I have researched, fairly well-respected. Just wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with his eating plan/healthy living suggestions?

Thanks!

Sparrow

Sparrow,

He's been around for a long time and I have nothing but the highest regard for his opinions. He is eminently sensible on all topics. I've never gone wrong following his advice. For a long time, he used to advise how to select dietary supplements, but recently he came out with his own line of supplements. They cost a bit more, but it's a relief for me not to have to do the research anymore. I know that I can just buy Dr. Weil's brand and I've got the right stuff. In fact, he's the one public figure I trust in the entire health industry field.

Here's an article about him. It's kinda long but worth reading (I think). You should know that Dr. Weil is into alternative medicine and this article explains what that is and how it relates to that doctor. It's kinda old but interesting nonetheless.

ETA: beware, this article is WAY longer than I thought. Maybe just reading a couple of "chapters" is enough if you don't have all day!!

I have several of his books. I have chronic pain and began reading up on him. I have 8 weeks to Optimum Health, Spontaneous Healing and Natural Health - Natural Medicine. What I like about him is that he is an M.D., but is also open to alternative therapies, he believes there is a place for both. The Spontaneous Healing book is really so interesting. It talks about how our bodies are really able to heal themselves in alot of circumstances, if we just allow them to. Also Natural Health - Natural Medicine is a good one to have for a reference for different health maladies. So, you can look up the condition and he makes suggestions on what herbs work for what conditions, etc. Probably worth going to your local Half Price Books and picking one up. They usually have his stuff.

I've read several of his books & it seemed like common sense, healthy nutrition. I never got the impression that he was opposed to traditional western medicine, but that he felt that we should be more proactive in determining our health. He hardly seems like an extremist.

Thanks, all! I'm going to continue to look into his work. I too think he hardly fits the profile of an extremist. In fact, one of the things I've liked while researching him is the fact that he seems to be fairly balanced in his approach to both Western medicine and Naturopathy/alternative medicine. Also, I'm not really looking for a body health routine as much as I am looking for some mental wellness guidance. I so want to be a more relaxed "go with the flow" person but am failing miserably!
