A hi rep set is perfect for the over 60 crowd and the under 60 crowd too. As we get older and stop making enough taurine, our mitochondria stop being able to use fat efficiently.
Thank you for sending the journals across. Our interaction is about discussing and eventually establishing if your statement above is relevant to the healthspan we are all after. I have highligthed what you are after because it is everyone's wish. We all want to be independant and active. One can pursuit fat loss as a short term goal but behind achieving the goal, he or she will gain the ability to perform 10 pull up for example. It is part of the process and in a long run she or he is looking after one's health. One can pursuit muscle size and "arguably" gain STRENGTH, power, agility and speed. Those are components over 50, 60 need to work on for a better healthspan. Those are anaerobic STRENGTH. Those are fast twith over 60 gradually loose while aging. If one does NOT recruit muscle, she or he loose it completely. The food --- Taurine without the work behind can not replace those fast twitches. later on in our life, we will need those twitches to react quickly, efficiently a safely.:rolleyes: Those fast twitches are not just for aesthetics. They also improve our metabolism and help in keeping those layer/fat off our waste line/types 2 diabetes:rolleyes::rolleyes:!!!

We need high rep pure cardio endurance, strength endurance and anaerobic strength too. Cathe has many many aerobic endurance. high- low, interval training such as 3 high step training, any step without blast etc..... In my opinion there are tons of them in cathe collection. What is truly missing is PURE strength for a rep range of 4 to 10. There are also many above 12 rep range.

Now "is high rep perfect for the over 60 crowd...." ? The answer is no. To some degree, we all need to train both high and low reps because there are benefits for both aerobic and anaerobics. Now you have highlighted the importance of mitochondria and how difficult it is to keep those energy cells act efficiently. Ok one of the strategy is to invest on fast twitch anerobics in both cardio and strength. Pro: They take less time and do not fatigue as long steady pace --- cardio/endurance. Because they are not as demanding in terms of fatigue, one won't pump too much on those mitochondria while performing zillions of high reps. We shall not forget that many 12, 16 reps of light weight is not strength. Take care for now:)

FYI, I'm not involved in any research on nutrition and I don't sell supplements of any kind. The information I shared is from the readings I did to figure out how to get past long covid.

More news about Four Seasons Health club

The community spirit that has made Four Seasons Fitness special will continue!
Like us, W.O.L.F Gyms has a strong tradition of being a community-focused gym, and they understand that a great fitness facility is about much more than equipment and workouts. It's about the people, the friendships, the familiar faces, and the welcoming atmosphere that make you feel like you're part of something.
We are also excited about the future because W.O.L.F has some exciting improvements and renovations planned for the facility. We think there are some great things ahead, and we'll be sharing more details with you as plans develop.
Most importantly, we want to thank all of you for your support, loyalty, encouragement, and friendship over the years. Four Seasons Fitness has been part of this community for more than four decades, and that simply would not have been possible without you.
This is great news! I hope W.O.L.F. Gyms recognize the treasure that they just acquired.

We need some of the streaming companies to start offering Cathe on demand or live on their platforms. Even more important, health insurance plans need to include these types of memberships in their benefits. They sponsor a lot of research on pharmaceuticals. Why not sponsor research to see if patients' outcomes improve when they have easy access to well designed exercise programs?

I couldn't agree with you more Soapmaker!!

A hi rep set is perfect for the over 60 crowd and the under 60 crowd too. As we get older and stop making enough taurine, our mitochondria stop being able to use fat efficiently. They shrink and atrophy. Our bodies start relying more on glucose for energy. We end up losing muscle mass and gaining fat that we can't easily get rid of because we can't turn it into energy without enough mitochondria. The mitochondria is also responsible for the synthesis of a significant portion of the amino acid proline which is needed for collagen synthesis/repair.
I am a muscle- mass obsessed --- I am not going to be apologetic about it!:) There is a lot more than aesthetic behind the reasoning coming off my head:D. Taurine is food and we can supplement it. With all respect to your reasoning above, aging is not fate as far as our wellbeing is concerned.:);)

Regardless of age, 80% of what we consume on daily basis is supposed to be stored onto our skeletal muscle-mass to be transformed into energy cells. to be transformed into mitochondria. Fatty acid become energy, glucose/glycogen become energy. All this is supposed to be processed by our skeletal muscle-mass. This is the reason some "brag" about body composition. Now if there is no muscle those 80% of nutrients spread every where our body. Any excess out of those 80% go on the loose, travelling towards our organs. Some of it goes to our heart/heart disease, other go to our pancreas ---- we know the overall worldwide population is eating way too much to admit :D:p;)(myself was in denial during my very young age!) this then pump the pancreas to produce more insulin ===> type 2 diabetes, in those 80% that spread and hang in various organs some causes neural inflammation --- dementia and alzheimer. Now why on earth, one would not invest in gaining muscles???? leaving all those foods travelling inside her/his body creating all sorts of metabolic chaos?:rolleyes: All this to reply to your question above: Nope high rep through mitochondria is not the real deal as far as our health concerned. Feel free to carry on solely lifting high rep of moderate load. Some need a mix of all and even focus on those 2 minutes rest and BUILD muscle mass. Hope all this is clear.Take care;):)
