Donna - those tuck jumps

Hi Donna,

I remember you mentioning a couple of times now that you've gotten better at the IMAX2 tuck-jumps (did the interval twice one day, didn't you?), and thought you might find this interesting. This morning I did the KPC stability ball work. When I was doing the crunches where you tap your toes against the ball, my daughter (4yrs) said to me, "Mommy, you look like you're doing a tuck jump." Her keen observation made me think that this sort of core work is probably another reason my tuck jumps have gotten better over time, as yours have. So I tried to work the move as hard as I could - if it makes tuck jumps easier, then I'm all for it!

Cheers,
Sandra

Hi, not Donna but found your daughter's observation very interesting...out of the mouths of babes as they say!

Ruth:)

Oh, I'm absolutely postive that the increase in my core strength is why I'm better able to do those tuck-jumps. Although...I have to admit...yesterday I did IMAX1 and didn't get as high on the tuck-jumps. Of course, they're in the 10th interval and I was pretty wiped out by the time I got to them. Intervals 8 and 10 are just brutal!

That's funny that your daughter pays enough attention to your workouts that she'd recognize a tuck-jump. Mine (also 4) is sometimes in the room, but doesn't really pay attention more than laughing at me when I fell on my face when my arms gave out after the stability ball pikes.

LOL! I'll pass it on, Marla!

DD recognizes tuck jumps because she takes gymnastics. We also have a morning routine whereby she wakes up and comes downstairs around the time I'm half-way into my workouts. I always have her breakfast sandwich waiting for her on the kitchen table, and she brings it into the living room, climbs onto the couch, gets cozy under a blanket, and watches me exercise while she eats. She just really, really enjoys watching Cathe, and pays very close attention to the workouts. She calls them my "Cathe dot com" because she heard Cathe say that one time. She frequently asks what a particular move is called, and will help with a count down. If Cathe gets ahead of me, DD will tell me to "Hurry, hurry, get your barbell!!" Her latest project is to learn all the crew's names. She can spot Cedie every time, but is still working on the others. She'll sometimes get off the couch and try out a few moves. She really adds a lot of fun to my morning workout. I have dubbed her my Assistant Coach, because we both agreed that Cathe is my Head Coach. She even towels me off when I'm done. Of course, I have to put up with her backwashing into my water bottle, but hey, small sacrifices :)

Oh, and yes, I completely agree about the potential hazards of KPC. She has learned to stay completely clear of me when I'm doing that workout. This morning she came into the room just as I was doing the front-kick/back-kick segment and I yelled at her to "DON'T MOVE!!". She stopped immediately and waited until I said she could move. She doesn't need a kick in the head, that's for sure!

Cheers,
Sandra

:) My dog learned the hard way with KPC. Poor thing got clocked right in the mouth the other day. I TOLD him to move, then just a minute later, he was back and I didn't see...and well...KLUNK! Good thing he's a pit bull with a head like a battering ram.

Donna- I have a dog & a cat (out of several) that think they need to be there in the room while I work out. No matter how loud I yell for them to leave the room , they plop themselves down. I think they feel like they are a part of it too. I'm terrified I'll stomp on them by accident. And if my DH is not home to get them out of the room, God forbid I get any ab work in. My dog will plop himself at my side pawing me so I can pet him & my cat will climb on my stomach. All while I'm trying to do crunches.

Jeez! You'd think I were neglecting them.

How fun!. I wish I had little coach coaching me in the back. Lord knows there have been many a times I have had to rewind Cathe because I wasn't set up on cue with her. LOL.:)

Marla - I have the same problem with my one cat (I have 3). She is such a lard! She always lays down on my step just as I get it set up. Or she lays down on my mat when I'm getting ready to do floor work. I have to keep shoving her out of the way - but since she's so fat, it's very difficult. Then she yells at me, "MEEEEOOOOW!" She's got a very loud yell.

She should get off her fat butt and workout with me! I don't even know HOW she got so fat. She eats high quality food. Must be the extra mice between meals.
