Don'cha just hate it when ...

Cathlete
people bring in Xmas goodies into work?

Right now as we speak, there is a tin of homemade mocha Nanaimo bars and a large box of Lady Godiva chocolates on the kitchen table -- right next to my office cubicle!!!!!

Every time I go in there I am soooo tempted to have a chocolate or bar. And the Godiva's are such pieces of art! White, milk and dark chocolate knights and ladies on horseback, white chocolate starfishes, beautifully-crafted medallions, etc. (can you tell I've been studying them closely?) But I know that just one will not satisfy me and will only make me crave more, so what's the point? So I dutifully chow down on my Granny Smith apple all the while visions of sugar plums dance in my head.

OK, OK, I do admit it, I did have a teeney-tiny wedge (and some of the crumbs left over on the bottom of the tin -- but those don't count, of course) of a Nanaimo bar -- just to be polite, don'cha know! Gotta tell you, rockets went off in my brain and I felt my whole body teetering towards the tin. I'm definitely a sugar-holic.

And the deadly "Why nots" are going through my brain this close to Xmas!

So, how many of you are dealing with these kinds of temptations at work?

Patricia

P.S. I WILL RESIST, I WILL RESIST, I WILL RESIST!!!! GET THEE FROM ME DARK (CHOCOLATE) SATAN!!

Over the past two years or so I've been able to file down my sweet tooth (formerly a fang) to an acceptable dullness; thus I'm not really tempted by all of the holiday goodies. What my failing is during December and January, as I noted in my lachrymosa "I'm Such a Load" yesterday, is my tendency to blow off an evening home workout on a depressingly regular basis.

So I've tossed out Gluttony and now grapple with Sloth! Sounds like a progressive program to me!

Patricia,
I'm just like you but worse. There was a box of candy at work today-Seis from California (sp?)and it is one of my favorites. Once that box was opened I ate three pieces when I was only going to have one. I told myself-I never get to have Seis so I might as well enjoy! Well, my body isn't use to all that sugar any more (I use to eat a 1/2 of box of Fannie May no problem) and I felt sick. Oh well, it was good.

Make each day count!

I absolutely hate it......it's a love hate relationship though.Because when I get hungry at work normally I will just wait until I get home but now I will have a cookie,or two,or three instead.
On saturady a lady brought in a big tray of cookies and then another lady came right behind her and dropped off some fudge. The day before that one lady brought in a box of choc. But I have now made a pack with myself. That from tomorrow morning till Christmas eve I will not eat anything else sweet! It's o.k if you can have one and stop but I am the type of person that it is better for me if I don't even taste it.
Wish me luck, it will be a hard 5 days.My body is going to be going thorugh detox!

Tell me about it! For some reason this year, all the parents of my students are doling out the chocolate and cookies. Luckily I have lots of co-workers who are willing to take it off my hands. So far I have given away the following items, which were given to me as gifts: a 1 1/2 lb. box of chocolate, 2 bags of holiday M&M's, 3 tins of cookies, 4 mini bags of candies/cookies, a tin of Werthers Originals, a box of crackers and a huge summer sausage thing, and 2 bags of hershey kisses (the mint chocolate flavor--my favorite!). Oh, and two more bags of cookies. Oh, and a loaf of zuchini bread. And a box of Andes candies. And a box of hot chocolate...
Can you imagine?!? All that was given to me in 3 days, and I still have 23 more students who will give me gifts! I hope they don't give me any more food! The only way I can resist is to not even taste it! I did have 3 bites of an incredibly delicious caramel and nut thing. Wow was it good!
Hang in there!

RE: YES!!!!!!!

I was just terrible today. I got gut rot from all the crap I ate. I work for a general contractor in construction, so all of the subcontractors we use give us gifts this time of year. Let's see, Monday I had almonds (a lot), cookies, carmel corn, and cake - all for lunch. Tuesday I had chocolates, cookie (like 5), nuts, and almond bark - for lunch. And today I had (get this) chocolate covered potato chips. No here's the friggin' irony: I do not eat potatoes because I read that they are too starchy and are stored as fat. But apparently if you cut them into slices, fry them in fattening oil, cover them in salt and fat laden chocolate, then I will eat them. I must be insane.

I am very lucky (I think!) because I have a bad reaction to eating sugar: it makes me sleepy and disoriented if I eat too much. THEREFORE, I find it easy to pass it up as work because I know I can't function if I give in.

At most of the places where I've worked, we have folks who will eat absolutely anything - even stale cookies people bring in from home that are left open and are very stale.

I work with a gal now who is like that - she never brings in food from home, she eats whatever is leftover, and finds anything hidden. I have never caught her getting into my personal stuff - I think she knows better.

Just Do It! :)

LAST EDITED ON Dec-19-02 AT 10:54AM (Est)[p]Not only do we get the deadly temptations, but if you don't take a piece they fuss and fuss and make a big deal out of it and stick one on your desk anyway. And where I work, its not just Christmas. We were having a cake on each and every birthday. It got ridiculous!

I actually got to the point a few years ago when I got positively rude about it (not nice, I know. But enough is enough) So FINALLY these people have stopped bothering me about it but they still pester the daylights out of others (some are really trying to lose weight)

Oh and those chocolate covered potato chips - there is a local candy company that makes them. You can get them covered with milk chocolate or dark chocolate. They are absolutely HEAVENLY! (I don't eat regular potato chips either - but I do eat these) The only way I can control it is to buy the smallest container and give them to my daughter and wait for her to offer me one (see, they are hers so I won't take one)

I so agree that Godiva's are a work of art. My sister worked for them for a while and I would get them for Christmas and Valentine's day and somehow I would eat just ONE each day.

OH and Seas candy or is it Seis - I don't know how to spell it either, but YUM YUM Lots of choices with BIG pieces of nuts...Had to edit this cuz I think the spelling is SEES...

And Dove dark chocolate bars are good for a quick fix...

hmmm I'm getting a little out of control here. I best go think about something else - my new bun & thigh rocker maybe...

LOL thanks for my daily fix - you are too funny!

I think you should just start a thread called "daily fix", so I don't have to go looking!
