Dogs that pee when they are nervous?

Im tird of cleaning up the pee, does anyone have any tips on how to stop it?
He isn't a real nervous dog and we got him as a puppy so he as never been abused but if he goes somewhere in the house where I don't want him at the time (if Im cleaning) and I tell him to go downstairs he doesn't listen to me.And as I get closer to him, he starts to pee, its almost as if he thinks Im gotta hit him or something. So today he comes upstairs while I am cleaning and i don't want the two dogs under my feet so i try to drive him back downstairs. I just point to the steps and he looks at me like he as no intentions of going anywhere. I don't want to touch his collar b/c I know as soon as I do he will start to pee...but what the hell...he pees anyway! He eventually goes downstairs like he is told, but not before he makes another mess for me to clean up.
Im getting a little tired of it now, probably b/c I am 26 weeks preggo and I don't want to be bending over cleaning up a mess all the time thats not nesscary.
Does anyone have any tips? Sometimes I try using a nice voice instead of a sturn one but then he just thinks I am being nice to him and he doesn't move. Anyone ever have this prob?

Google "submissive urination". And you should get alot of info.. Submissive urination is a way for some dogs to reasure you that you are top dog. It sucks but there is help. :)

I have noticed that a lot of little dogs do this. My mom had a cockapoo and she always did that. When she was "in trouble", when you went to pet her, when she was excited, etc. It never stopped. We were really good to her too and had her as a small puppy. A friend of mine had a small dog who did the same thing. I have heard lots of people say this about small dogs. Is your dog small? I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you. I just wanted you to know you are not alone in dealing with this issue!

My springer spaniel did that for years, but he did outgrow it. We've had him since he was a pup too so I'm not sure why he was so "nervous" but when he got scolded or excited (like when company came) he would dribble. Maybe it's low self esteem.;) He quit doing it around age 5 so it did take awhile but I haven't cleaned up a puddle in years.
 
I'm sorry for what you're experiencing with your dog. I don't have any tips but I have something to share. I've been known to make a dog or 2 pee in my presence. :eek: One dog because he was just a nervous wreck (he passed away a few years ago) and the other dog because he always gets excited when he sees certain people. I try to make sure that I'm in a pee friendly zone when I see this dog although sometimes he catches me coming out of my car and the inside of it gets christened. :7 Should I feel complimented or insulted? :p

I hope you find a solution to this situation very quickly.

Yeah, he isn't a big dog. When we bought him they told us that he was a black lab but i didn't think we were buying a lab for $30, so he is about 25-30 lbs, I would think. Which is small compared to our other 135 lbs dog.
He use to pee when he was younger as well when he got excited but he doesn't do this anymore. He just does it now when he thnks he is in trouble.
I will google what you gals suggested. I just didn't know if there were any magic tricks out there!

I agree with Sunshine. Try checking into an area animal behaviorist. Until then, search the internet for a pee band(for a male dog) you can buy one or make them. It's similar to a diaper. This will help solve the clean up problem while you work on solving the problem:)
 
My daughters dog Cookie pees on me everytime he sees me. I hold him away at 1st. Every time. He gets really excited and tail wags and jumps on me and starts peeing. Has done this to certain people for a long time.4 years old and hasn't quit....
